Davinci Resolve is very smart at switching between your discrete GPU and your intel iGPU (just make sure both options are ticked in the settings, plus iGPU is enabled in BIOS). So say you're scrubbing through the timeline and you've got a mix of codecs in there, you'll see in Task Manager that when h265 video is playing, the Intel is what's being used to decode, not NVIDIA

I did a custom PC build for gaming, video editing, and photo editing. I just love the fact that it'll never become "outdated" since everything is basically plug and play. But with the specs I have there's no reason to do that for the next 5 years or so

I love my M3 MacBook Pro, I program in python, photo/video editing and djing/music production and it handles all of them no issues. I tried pc for all of these and a very high end built pc but I don’t think it’s the same when it comes to stability and ease of use

Mac Mini M4, by far the best bang for you buck right now.

I recently built my own pc because none of the pre built ones suited my video and photo editing needs. These components were what I eventually used in the build for a fast PC.
AMD 5975 threadripper CPU
Nvidia RTX 4060ti
64gB of cosair Ram
4 hard drives
2 fast Samsung m2 drives for the operating system and editing programmes and two SATA drives for my photo and videos storage.
Separating the operating system from the programmes makes a huge difference to workload speed and once I'm happy with edited videos they're transferred to a modular NAS disk station which currently has 16 TB of available and used data.

I love Mac's and it really drives me crazy how many PC apps aren't available for it

I'm a computer technician and part-time videographer and editor, and I can assure you that in Premiere the GPU won't make a difference, even if it's an RTX 4090, If you don't use some type of CGI. Premiere doesn't use the GPU for encoding, it only uses it to generate virtual things in the video. If you really want to take advantage of the GPU's performance to export the video faster, abandon Premiere and switch to Davinci Resolve. There the GPU is actually used for encoding and not just for CGI tasks. Not to mention that in addition to Premiere, Davinci replaces Audition and After Effects.

I’ve played around with the M2 Mac Studio and it is stupidly powerful. However if you can’t run your editing software on it it’s useless.

Mac is for ppl that want something that works and don't mind some limitations. Windows is for people that care about budget and doesn't want any limitations, and don't mind extra work fixing or upgrading. Just the way I see it based on my own experience

I’m looking to get a new computer and i prefer PCs, but I prefer apple for my smart phone. Is it a headache to get iphone video files onto a PC? I’m aware that apple doesn’t play nice outside their ecosystem.

If you dont mind your pc's fan running a lot and if it will be kept in a cool place. I would hands down recommended a ryzen 9 7900x series. Its little bit more hotter than Intel and less energy efficient. But it's noticeable faster. I use a ryzen 9 5900hx for personal use and an Intel i9 13th gen. Both with 128gb of ram and a rtx 4090 in both. Sometimes I can notice the Intel machine being a little slower especially with heavy graphics work

I produce video, motion and 3D for a consumer goods manufacturer. I can attest to a good build’s performance. Mac’s are great for real-time previews of 4K footage while editing in timeline. To be honest though they still can’t touch RTX for both real-time render in timeline AND extremely fast export (which is why you’ll need both CPU and GPU).

Why have one, when you can build and have both? Btw I am a huge Apple fan. My first mac was a 91 Apple SE. It’s not a bias. I literally use both everyday (new machines not the SE). Influencers go Mac and push Mac which is why you see it saturate the pro market, but there’s a reason shows like Mando use RTX machines.

I have a Mac Studio and it’s an absolute power house. I use Mac, Linux and Windows but for work I stick to Mac. You’ve thought me a lot in this last months since I’ve been watching your videos, if you want more details on why I think you should switch to Mac, I’ll elaborate.
