1- Porvorim Khapreshwar temple demolition has raised several questions about the temple committee’s functioning. As per sources, the committee gave consent in the Supreme Court for a flyover project when a project was of a single pillar. However, flyover consent was used to demolish the temple but it was shocking to know that the temple committee failed to approach the High Court.
2- Abu Farhan Azmi, politician and husband of Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia, has been booked for creating public nuisance in Candolim and allegedly brandishing a licensed firearm during a late-night altercation.
Three locals Zeon Fernandes, Joseph Fernandes, Sham and other unidentified persons also involved in the incident, have also been booked by the Calangute police that took suo motu cognisance of the matter.
3- The High Court has again conveyed the message to the petitioner Internet Service Providers that they have to pay at least 20% of the arrears for using electricity poles for the cables, then only their plea for relief will be considered. Asking to provide details of the operators and the arrears, the High Court has adjourned the hearing for 11th March. On 5 March, the High Court is scheduled to hear a similar plea of cable operators.
4- Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that GHRDC employees will be granted permanent employment upon completing two years of probation. Additionally, Sawant said that women employees will receive six months of paid maternity leave, and employees will be eligible for financial assistance of ₹10,000 to pursue further education.
Sawant also said that government is considering Housing Loan Allowance scheme and Bonous to employees of GHRDC par with State govt employees; announcement in the State Budget: CM Sawant
5- Supreme Court granting interim relief to the petitioner NGO Goa Foundation, has ordered that no further conversion sanad shall be issued in respect of all the 855 survey numbers that are listed as finally identified and demarcated private forest by the Thomas and Araujo Committees in their reports dated 10.12.2018 and 28.12.2018.
The Supreme Court then wanted to know how such conversion sanads could be granted when the Court was seized of the matter in appeal. Granting Goa government 4 weeks time to file its reply, the Supreme Court has ordered that “no further conversion sanad issued in respect of the subject survey numbers. The Supreme Court will hear this matter next on 28 March.
