Pat Metheny - And I Love Her (The Beatles)

"The Beatles were huge for me. Without them, I don't know if I even would have become a musician or a guitar player. When their hits started coming out, I was 8 and 9 years old and it had a tremendous impact on me. I saw the movie "A Hard Day's Night" multiple times when it came out and I always loved that song. It is kind of impossible to imagine doing a record like this without including at least one Beatles song." - Pat Metheny

That’s why they say that a song has the longest life. A good melody will outlive us all.

My mother was into the Big Band era, Glenn Miller, Dorsey, Goodman, etc... but every once in a while, she could tolerate some newer music. She didn't like Rock & Roll at all, but she liked some softer stuff. I came across this video in 2014, and I asked her to listen to it ( I was her caregiver by then). She was skeptical when I said it was a guitar rendition, but she let me play it. It absolutely melted her heart. She died about a month later sadly, but I was glad she got to experience a different type of music and was able to enjoy it. Miss you, Mom.

YouTube's great. You watch all sorts of rubbish & then you accidentally stumble on a gem like this. Perfect!

Pat Metheny is a gift from God. He still finds inspiration to be great after 50+ years of brilliant playing and composing.

This is what happens when one of the legends is played by one of the legends. Perfecto.

Never tire of this cover. Then you also need to remember the geniuses who first wrote / recorded it.

I've never heard Pat Metheny on an acoustic, and you can tell it's Pat after three plucks. Incredible touch.

When you go full circle in mastery you get back to simple songs and make them sound heavenly.

Respect.

There's something very bizarrely comforting about hearing Pat breathing here. Often when you're listen to performances of songs, or the songs themselves, you can forget that human beings, having a human experience, wrote and recorded them, and were doing something as obvious as breathing the entire time. Arguably, the best music of all time has that effect. It's somewhere between alienating and understanding. Just hearing the struggle between human and instrument, and the tug of war that goes into making a song happen live, and the irregular, heavy breathing reminds us what we are capable of if we really apply ourselves. We're human beings just the exact same as Pat Metheny, hard as that might be to believe.

What a beautiful version of this classic Beatles song.

This is how a musician "truly plays music", and does not make it an excuse to show off technique, and in the process destroy the music.

As a professional guitarist of ten years, I love what he is doing. He isn't slapping, clacking or playing showoff, he just feel and expresses the song. So many 'McKee wannabe' acoustic guitarists could learn a large amount about the guitar just by watching this video.
