Lyrics:
What about the glass dandelion?
What about the TV screen?
What about the undeveloped cameras?
Maybe should bury these

What about the last of the good ones?
What about the ceiling fans?
What if we moved back to New York?
What about the moondrop light?

You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, I'm only gonna break it
You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, you should take it

What about the rainbow eucalyptus?
What about the instruments?
What about the Cowboy Junkies?
What about the Afghan Whigs?

What about the Mountain Valley Spring?
What about the ornaments?
What if I reinvented again?
What about the moondrop light?

You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, I'm only gonna break it
You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, you should take it

You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, if I miss it I'll visit
You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, you should take it

I don't want it, I don't care, I don't want it

It wouldn't be fair, it'd be so alone
Without you there, it wouldn't be fair
It wouldn't be fair, there's nobody home
I'm already there, it wouldn't be fair

You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, I'm only gonna break it
You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, you should take it

You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it, if I miss it I'll visit
You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it
You should take it

It wouldn't be fair, it'd be so alone
Without you there, it wouldn't be fair
It wouldn't be fair, there's nobody home
I'm already there, it wouldn't be fair

Lost my husband a year ago last week. My soul mate. My all. We use to listen to The National almost every night. Took many, many months to listen again. Wanted to see them live so much but when they came through last time I couldn’t do it. Too hurt still. Then I find out I get another chance. I. Got a ticket. Just now to be strong enough to go when they get here. Such truths in the lyrics candy honesty in his voice/
Much love to all

4 years ago I broke my vows to my wife. I let the world get to me. I let my past get to me. In reality, I just found something new, shiny, something that shimmered under the sun. But what was lost was a lifetime of commitments, of words, of sacrifices. In life we walk the streets looking for peace. We look for the safe places in life. Sometimes those places end up being warm arms and a place to lay our weary heads. Sometimes those places look dull, weathered, and don't ask for attention.

Sometimes. They are gone.

Dig deep. Steady your heels and dig deeper. There, you'll find the worth of it all.

Thank you, The National for leaving your blood on the table once again.

They also have one the best rock drummers ever. Subtle and brilliant.

In this short video epoch, we must protect The National and other independent bands at all costs

Matt's voice sounds even better as he gets older. He sounds more brooding & raw. Love it!

Got divorced right after I am Easy to Find came out, I found it very cathartic to listen to in my quiet house at night during those loneliest days. This album feels like a continuation of those themes and a lot of the feelings I'm still processing. Thank you, The National.

The National never gets as much attention as they deserve. Every song is a banger and they are consistent from record to record, just spoon-feeding the hordes with more brilliance than we deserve to consume.

There is something truly special about how the Dessner music mixes with Matt’s lyrical melodies and the Devendorf rhythm section.

This song tears open old wounds in a way that heals. Thank you, The National. No one does it quite like you do.

To me The National is one of very few bands having their unique and recognizable sound/style.
But they kinda reinvent it every album, tweak it here and there and add these familiar but yet so vague lyrics.
It's not in any way repetitive, there is always something to discover.
Im really thankful for that.

Whoa. I knew right away what this song was about, which I can't always say for this band. When you live through this situation more than once, you recognize the wording and the conversations. "If I miss it, I'll visit. You should take it, cuz I'm not gonna take it." Trying to divide up the earthly remnants of the lost family you love. I just had these conversations last fall again when I lost my sister. You take that lamp she used to love to read by at night in her bed. I can take this book and this framed 5x7 of us at the beach that summer in high school. Wow. The National has really crafted some album, if these new songs are any indication. Love you guys...

Oh lord. How sad. A true breakup song. A mature breakup song. It's heart-wrenching. It brings back memories I didn't know I still had. Makes me cry. Don't know if I can listen to it again, because I'll be hearing it for weeks. Well done, gentlemen. Art is life. I didn't think this needed to be a song, but I think, perhaps, in listening to it more, I may be able to get past something I never knew was blocking me. Thanks. Love to you.

I wanted to say some great words of how underrated this song and band are, but now, after 14 years, I know it's everyone else's loss. This is a hall of fame band.

Nobody writes "Sad dad songs" quite like the National and I love every one of them.

Toward the end of the song, I had a strange feeling, just for a moment. Some one note pierced my heart - I've never felt like this. I felt a keen desire to live that had left me so long ago. Soon the pain will be gone, thank you National

Any one else notice how the sad songs punch a little harder now that we are older and lived through some things?
