Initially approached by Ford to improve the performance of their GT40 at Le Mans, Shelby American by legendary Carroll Shelby soon became a close associate of the Ford brand, and work in unison with the company to produce track focused variants of some of their most celebrated models, most notably, the Mustang. Over the years, Shelby have been adding their own twist to the Mustang, but the GT500 name was last seen in 2014, until it resurfaced once more for the 2020 model year.
