ADHD Life Lessons I Wish Someone Told Me After Getting Diagnosed, 34/50

If you have ADHD, you may often find yourself overthinking things to the point of feeling completely miserable because whether it's about what groceries to buy, what people will think if you post that video, or who to partner with for a project, the more you overanalyze, the more overwhelmed your brain becomes. This can lead to increased anxiety, procrastination, and difficulty sleeping as you try to avoid making a decision altogether, which can be emotionally draining.

It was during this time that I discovered the power of thinking less and trusting my instincts. Instead of constantly overanalyzing decisions, I realized that, our brains are really good at making connections subconciously, giving us the ability to sense other people's intentions really well and that I needed to learn to trust my intuition. **Now, for important decisions, I still take time to sleep on it, but I focus on trusting myself to take action which has resulted in some of the best outcomes I could have hoped for.**

Lesson 34: Follow your intuition

Overthinking one decision and then impulsive decision making the next.

Thats why i love backpacking. Just live a bit cheap, and have a sorta end point. For over 1 month all i had to do was wake up, travel west, camp before sunset. Repeat. Bliss

Often with ADHD my intuition gets lost in the abyss and I can easily forget that there’s this “deeper knowing” I have, or it just gets lost in the madness of your constant thoughts. I somehow figure it out on the go but I wish there was a better way to get from thought to action more quickly. This would save me so much heartache, distress and frustration.

"Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all."

This is a really really good one. As someone with ADHD, and working on air in radio, I was almost forced into doing this at work. Originally I was nervous, quiet, thinking about every little sentence. Now, I just kinda turn my brain off and let the words flow. It's helped a lot.

Additionally, I recommend anyone who has ADHD, to look at going into radio. There's always something different to talk about, go over, and hear every day. Helps keep that spark of wanting to go in, and helps with focus immensely.

My sleep has been getting worse. My friends suggested me to tire myself and I must admit the one month I was going to the gym I was out as soon as I hit the bed but then again i had classes going on. Yesterday even though I could barely open my eyes, i couldn't sleep and then i realised it was because there was a lot going on in my head.

Overthinking and Perfectionism = Enemies of Productivity…. and, unfortunately, are the rule when it comes to my own personal life… ugh!!

Every time I do this, my family criticizes me for being impulsive
Even when the results are successful, they say I'm jumping into things. That's why I overanalyze. That's why I don't trust my intuition anymore. It didn't come from me. I want to start telling people that not all quick decisions are an invitation to doom and to stop feeling like they've got the right to judge and infantilize me.

I usually go with intuition and about 20 hours of deep diving research. Definitely understand the over analyzing part though. Merry Christmas!

I'll have to gradually experiment with listening to my intuition with less risky things to build trust in my intuition. Thanks for the vid.

Discovering various ADHD therapies like psychotherapy, behavior therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy has been eye-opening. The diversity in approaches highlights the uniqueness of each person's ADHD journey. It's wonderful to have a range of amazing options available for those navigating this path.🧠💪

I've encountered people who believe that ADHD brings a unique perspective, fostering creativity and optimism. It's interesting how individuals with ADHD can excel in specific areas, contributing to a richer and more diverse collective human experience.🌈✨

Trouble is my iNtuition is precisely WHY I overthink. It's extroverted and locked behind an introverted Judging function. So it's VERY good at coming up with ALL the what-ifs, but absolutely terrible at settling on just one of them. And then it decides not to do anything at all, and I get stuck in the Fi/Si loop, and that's why I have avoidant personality disorder.

I'm FiNe, really.
