The second you mentioned a VW Bug in the 70s, my heart dropped. But whoa, what a twist - I did not see that ending coming! At first, I was thinking Bundy saw a short haircut purposely covered by a big hat and took pity on her because he thought she had cancer. But she just didn't look enough like his ex-fiancee anymore!! The scariest part is the (possible) implication that he knew she used to have longer hair, so he'd seen her at least once before that day and had been STALKING HER just waiting for an opportunity

Just got back from a camping trip. My friends brought a camera, and were recording a video diary of the trip together. The whole time, all I could think was how if we were lost or killed in the forest, the investigators would use the footage to figure out what happened. That's how I knew I'd been watching too many Ballen videos 😅

The way he makes people sound normal in the beginning of stories blows my mind

Brazilian here. The first story about the woman and the uncle at the bank shocked the whole country. Just unfathomable. Erika was even interviewed by a very famous journalist and maintained her version that her uncle was alive when they got into the cab and that she didn't realize he'd died on the way to the bank. But the footage is very damming. She holds his head upright and tries to make him hold the pen while smiling nervously. When she stops supporting his neck, the head drops all the way to the back. The image is blurred, but we can clearly see that the man was dead. I find it impossible to believe in her story.

As soon as I saw the pic of that VW Beetle, and considering it happened in the 70s, I knew immediately it was that sicko serial killer, Theodore Robert Bundy. To know that cutting her hair saved her from torture by the hands of evil, and certain death, is pretty friggin amazing.

I had the honor to meet Anne Rule back in 2004 I believe at a Walmart in Bremerton, WA. I got to hear her first hand account of meeting Ted Bundy when she worked for the police department. How her dog would growl at him whenever he came near her. So instantly I knew who you were describing in the story of the pale yellow beetle stopping to pick up the girl waiting for the bus in the snow. I love listening to your stories!

My girlfriend and I hitchhiked once during high school. We got picked up by an undercover officer (not local police, we knew them) who proceeded to lecture us about the dangers of hitchhiking. We never did that again.
