It's an important topic to discuss, though quite a difficult one. Polarizing even. In part because there are some who come from broken backgrounds. And while they may mentally comprehend, that there are alot of elders who quite reliable and a wealth of knowledge, because of their personal history (which still dominates alot of them emotionally more than they would every care to admit) they get emotionally defensive, and try to de-legitimize the aforementioned point of valuable elder advice. People will always need help and that's not a bad thing.

Humans are satellites, nor turly independent. Nothing is. Self sufficient sure, but not independent. Life is far to symbiotic for that, and that's a good thing really.

I heard a story one time a man in business for 50 years had a female assistant. Business was really good and he wanted to keep her around so they drew up a marriage contract to keep them together so they can stay in business

I love all your content and I mean this with "all due respect" I can't disagree more with this take. I can only speak to my experience but all our families aren't about love and seeing you succeed. Some families hate seeing you do better than them. Some parents will do everything in their power to ruin a relationship they see makes you happy.

Honestly if you want a successful relationship in my eyes you have to find a person willing to do the work with you. Your life and problems don't need to be constantly broadcasted to people not in the situation who would say what you should or shouldn't do. What they would take or wouldn't take. Relationships are about the people involved.

The goal is to build the best life for your kids. And being able to still enjoy time with the families but they can't run or control your relationships. Especially families who've had nothing but toxic relationships failed marriages and think of partners as interchangeable pieces depending on how they feel. If you want a life partner you have to live separate and work with each other to build the best on how you agree deemed fit! IDC about how anybody else feels on that.
