Nothing like getting this call at 3am…an adrenaline rush like no other #trauma #neurosurgery #oncall

For neurosurgeons who take trauma calls, 24-hour availability and readiness are critical. Due to the scarcity of physicians in our speciality, we often take call many times per week or many days in a row. Not every trauma center has neurosurgery residents, and mine does not. So either the surgeon on call or their APP may fulfill this requirement. But if the patient’s life is on the line, we need to be there even faster.

About how many of your on calls do you get an emergency call?
Have you ever been pulled over by the police trying to get to the hospital?
That'd be cool if they knew your vehicle and your occupation, and know if they see it, you're in a rush to help someone, so don't stop you.

I think I would sleep next to the garage, have the car facing outward, sleep with my clothes on, all the things...but being well over prepared is my way of coping.😅

Or 30 minutes to answer/respond to a phone call/page, and then get there as fast as possible?
