AI images will never replace fanart as it can't replicate the joy of knowing someone spent even those few minutes making a silly doodle for you

I remember someone said “I don’t want AI to do my art so I can wash my dishes, I want AI to wash my dishes so I can do my art”

Being an IT graduate I was trying to "be as efficient" as possible as making art.

But only after I let go of "trying be fast and very best", I finished 2 sketchbooks in a month.

No longer thinking of time or cost efficiency, accepting drawing as drawing each stroke meaningfully gets its own way to me.

The understanding and purposefulness behind each stroke, is what AI (and sadly other people) will never understand. But that's why my artists friends are getting paid for, while AI bros are not.

There's also something to be loved by mistakes make by a human artist. Some mistakes are just ya know mistakes but then some mistakes lead to a whole other journey. Human mistakes are still far more fascinating than ai' "perfectionism"

Someone said "I never knew how a human soul presents itself in an artwork, until I saw one without it."

Deliberation, intent, focus, biases, inspiration... These all manifest in the artists' every stroke and choices. The AI doesn't know context (maybe until the day AGI comes, but that's for another day) and the human prompts are far too simplistic to capture these intricacies. Art is more than just 'drawn in the style of Ruan Jia, trending on artstation'. Those who never went through the painstaking process will forever stay on the shallow levels, living as a mockery of the creative spirit.

I agree. If "AI" is ever used to make art in a meaningful way, I think it'll be closer to the fill bucket tool or gradient tool than going from a prompt. Something that helps digital artists do something that is physically laborious for humans that is only one small part of a conscientiously designed whole.

The thing that AI bros always seem to get wrong is that art is not a commodity. It’s a form of communication. Saying AI art is just as good or better than human art is like saying you don’t need friends when you can talk to the graffiti on bathroom walls. Both involve words, so what’s the difference?

Exactly! I love thinking about the time and thoughts that went in the artists head while making this, thinking about their choice of style along with the intention behind the color they chose, with ai you can’t do that, you can tell that no one put real thought behind the detail and design, it feels so hollow
