We dive into some of the glaring issues we uncovered on our first track event with the Toyota GR Corolla. With the AWD system overheating and limiting our track time we search for ways to make this car take the beating we are going to throw at it.

Thank you to APEX'i and BSide Fabrication for all the help and support as we dive further into this new-to-us chassis.

Appreciate you guys keeping us updated!!! And I’m loving how in-depth you guys are going on this build! If you guys happen to be free Sunday morning and are in the Anaheim area I’d love to meet you guys and see the car in person! The cars and coffee classics In Anaheim is happening this Sunday morning. No doubt you guys would win best in show!!!

You guys just earned yourselves a new subscriber. Love the in depth stuff on the GRC. I just picked mine up on Monday.

Great video! I like that you are covering exploratory brainstorming. I'm a sucker for this nerdy stuff.

If there is room around the clutch pack you could have an aluminum heat sink designed to wrap around it and bolt it on to help pick up the heat from it and release it in the air on top of your ducting you planned. Ķind of like an RC car electric motor sink.

It could be an electrical gremlin. I was at uni the other day on a pretty cold day (around 4 degrees).

Picked up my car and drove home. 5 minutes out of the parking mode it went into 2WD mode stating that it overheated.

Awesome cars, sadly we dont get it here 🇬🇧, but we do get the GR Yaris which I have. Love it on road and track.

Great video, thank you and very insightful. Curious, does the exhaust pipe get so hot because of low grade material? Is there a different material that resists heat better?

A friend of mine has one he has been tracking and so far hes done the exhaust wrap but he over heats it in any mode he is running 265 r comp tires though. He said even on stock 235s he would get it to over heat on track in any mode though....

Does this finally solves the clutch pack AWD overheating issue on heavy track use? Thinking of applying it to my GRC?

That’s interesting. It sounds like you may want to increase cooling capacity for the clutch pack assembly.

Time to get creative.
I can think of some fabricating options.

1. Air cooled option. You need to increase surface area to dissipate heat. Maybe add fins or a heat sink
2. Electric option. Rig up your own temp sensor to the case, along with one or two mini fans (computer server fans?)

3.Water option. Fabricate a water jacket to mostly or partially encase the unit. Then you have the option to create a standalone cooling system for it, if needed.

For the diff coupler, it wouldn’t be that hard to tac on a bracket and mount some kind of metal fin and shield to keep it cool. Apexi should 100% incorporate that into any aftermarket units. It seems like such an easy solution I wonder if this thing was engineered to heat up and disengage for long term reliability reasons? Pure conjecture.

its not a matter of cooling the clutchpack, its a matter of adjusting the software limits on the temperature sensor/ecu. its being way too overprotective, the limits simply need to be raised in software.

Steady in the event of wild races or racing

Newish to the channel. Hopefully next video will have more scenes of fixing the problems. I wonder if the Morizo Edition has some differences or solutions to the described problems? If a car marketed like the GR products can't make it through a 20 minute HPDE session without overheating...

Drill two holes in the diff cover, weld some bungs, add a small pump and oil cooler and your done..

Use some of that space gained with the new exhaust to build a metal heat shield between the exhaust and clutch packs. Mount it with some of the case bolts or something like that.

Seems the saga continues to make this do what it was advertised to do stock.

I'm even more disappointed to see the Corolla GR overheat the drive train during cannyon driving ON A COLD DAY. That's quite sad. Now, "it needs" suspension, seats, exhaust, AND to find a way to cool it down... smh.. That's frustrating, honestly.

I am interested to see where this journey goes.. 😁👍
