You´ve forgotten another use: panorama photos.
If you really need a speedlight when traveling, use the bult-in flash instead. What a shame, if the camera doesn`t have one.
But seriously: a camera (FX sensor), a single 1, 8/50 mm lense or a mid-range zoom lense (24-70 mm), a speedlight and a leightweight compact tripod is all you need when traveling and this equipment isn`t to heavy. It it seems to be heavy get yourself a better daypack.

Excellent video...good explanation of your rationale for choosing the tripod over the flash--when a choice has to be made.  I know it's not the point of your video, but the shot of the basilica of the national vow and the interior of your friend's hotel both have verticals which could benefit from some perspective adjustments.  It may be that you can't because your view angle wasn't wide enough and to make those adjustments would cut off too much of the image...but when you feature those images next time, I'd recommend either explaining that, or making the adjustments.  I love your work, so please take this with the good intentions meant.

2 days before my Madagascar trip I scored a very solid lightweight aluminum tripod. I use it alot and shot some nice video with it! Timelapsing in the sea with the tight comes in :D Starting with your feet wet anding with your knees wet :D
