"Do you want to go out?" is the magic phrase my dog listens out for. Sometimes to tease her, which is often I would hyper extend the words to see her excitement build "DooOOOoOoooOOOOooo yOOoUUUooooOo...." and then she jumps me.

This is acutally true for children, when parents say "we're going in 10 minutes, get your coats on" all the kid hears is we're going in the future, not now so I don't need to get ready now...

I discovered with my previous boy that dogs don't understand that words can have multiple meanings: walk means one thing only. But they can understand sequences, if you give them practice: I'd say, "I go shops now. We go walk after." Took a while, but he learned.
My current boy has also learned to understand this humine/canan hybrid language.

dog can actually understand a great amount of our language. especially when you repeat these behaviors, dogs will learn to understand what you mean🩷 also dog’s do not hold grudges ;)

When going out without our dogs we would tell them how long we would be gone.
Over time and as they got older I believe it was the tone of voice that gave them an idea of how long.
Anyway that's what I choose to believe 💕

That's why I have 3 dogs. They still miss me if I go out but they are not alone. The pack is still mostly there.
