To write a song like that basically on the spot ( as described in a bunch of interviews) and make it fit so perfectly with the rest of the soundtrack of the musical is something so damn special that Taylor doesn't get enough recognition for. Not only can she write amazing songs but the genres she's explored over the years. And somehow everything is good. And lyrically very clever.
Very few artists can do that

I think Victoria had abusive and dismissive owners, and she can relate to Grizabella a bit. And she's telling Grizabella that at least she has good memories that she can look back on, but Victoria can't because they were all bad.

Personally I think this song and Victoria’s character in the movie completely undermines the entire point of the musical and is a big f you to Grisabella. All Grisabella wants to be part of a group again, the Jellicle cats. Victoria here is basically saying, “suck it up. Your life has been great. I was dumped here in a sack.” At least Victoria is part of a group and can find comfort in that, Grisabella has no one and nothing. The whole song and Victoria being “the lead” in the movie is a slap in the face to fans of the musical.
The whole point is that Grisabella is desperate for another cat to touch her and welcome her back into the Jellicle’s. In this SHE LITERALLY BACKS AWAY FROM VICTORIA. This is a complete 180 of her character in the show and takes away all the emotional nuance that the show had.

I love Victoria but Jemima is my favorite cat and I hate that they took her moments from her. They could’ve the balanced the two somehow.
