Pentatonix doing Hallelujah might be one of the best things you'll ever hear.

What I've heard is that the Simon & Garfunkel version is a gentle warning; Disturbed's version is 'I'm mad you haven't listed to the warning' and the Pentatonix version is the hope that we can still make things right.

They sound just as good live. Seriously the best acapella group ever. I love both versions of this song - I would suggest you listen to Daft Punk medley. They won a Grammy for it - and there are videos of them doing it live. They can sing any genre. It's truly astounding.

I love their stuff, but my jaw hit the floor when I saw what they were able to do with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". I honestly didn't expect that to be very good as an acapella song. Boy, was I wrong! Amazing.

There is a reason they have won 3 Grammys. IT WAS HOW THEY SOUND!!!! LOL

First, they don't record anything that they can't sing live !! Secondly, check out their LIVE performances and you will be blown away...."Gold", "Hallelujah (NY Xmas), "Coffee in Bed" (Jimmy Kimmel show); "2016 PopSpring" concert (sponsored by MTV, so the video and audio are spectacular), and dozens upon dozens of others.
BTW...3 Grammys; multiple platinum albums; sold out 5 world tours and dozens of concerts...in fact, they have over 400 videos, 20 MILLION subscribers and well over 7 BILLION views of their videos...enjoy the journey down this rabbit hole

So happy to see you reacting to PTX! Pentatonix is the G.O.A.T of modern acapella. They have paved the way to commercial success for other acapella grouos like Voiceplay and Homefree.

3 grammy wins (4 nominations) a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star. Together 12 years with only one member change. Over 300 covers and originals (even better than their covers). Their live performances are just as good and often better than studio versions!

Each member is a musical unicorn. They all have fantastic solo work in addition to their PTX work. All very hard working, humble and kind. This group has a way of tapping into your emotions. I subbed for your Ren reactions and what a joy to see you reacting to Pentatonix, too. Can't wait for more!

Welcome to Pentatonix (PTX)! This group is really incredible the way they blend, and create fantastic 5 part harmonies. They do mostly pop genre and LOTS of Christmas...in fact they have some 6 Christmas albums out as well as 5 "regular" albums. ( yes, the beatboxer Kevin Olusola, sings and is a tenor) and yet each one of them is capable vocally of making solos.
The members are:
~1st Singer: Scott Hoying, baritone. Scott fills in the bass when the bass singer takes a verse or the lead.
~ 2nd Singer: Mitch Grassi, countertenor. Mitch has a very clear, angelic voice and a 6 octave range. He can go into soprano...and frequently does!
~ 3rd singer: Matt Sallee, lyric baritone. Matt has like all the group, a 4 octave range and has a beautiful warm bass. he took over the bass when Avi Kaplan ( the group's original basso profundo) left amicably for personal reasons in 2017.
~ 4th singer, Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonado, mezzo soprano. Kirstie has a lovely bright voice and a warm lower register.
~5th member, Kevin Olusola, beatboxer, tenor, cellist. Kevin doesn't often get to sing alone ( he does fill in harmonies when not actively beatboxing) and has a really sweet tenor voice and falsetto. Occasionally the group uses instruments ( especially lately when they did their last Christmas album) and usually you will see the instrument...Kevin on his cello... or once, Scott on piano in the video.
The group prizes itself on not using much post production on their voices. They can produce exactly the same sound live as they have in their official videos. There's no autotune, but I do believe they use Melodyne for some effects and a bit of reverb.
Some suggestions on what to check out next:
Daft Punk medley, Hallelujah, Bohemian Rhapsody, Coffee In Bed ( original), Run To You (original), Mad World, Love Again (original), Shallow, New Rules/I Am That Somebody, 90's Dance Medley, Evolution of Michael Jackson.
I subbed for more Pentatonix.

If you want to see a good example of them in a live setting but with really professional recording, Check out the Popspring 2016 performance. It was a MTV Japan festival so the audio balance is very well done. It is 3 of their originals and an Evolution of Michael Jackson medley, All performed totally live no post. You'll be even more blown away.

FYI...PTX has right at 20 MILLION subscribers and 5.5 BILLION video views. Key point for you is that their subscribers will watch their videos wherever they are shown, and they love seeing first time reactions! Keep playing them and your numbers will definitely go up...not to mention you having a great time as well.

They obviously polish stuff up in post production, but I saw them live in London this year, and there really was very little difference sound wise. They have a ton of live performances you could look at to see for yourself.

FYI Scott is the baritone, Matt has the bass, Kirsty (rhymes with thirsty) is alto/ soprano, Kevin holds the beats (but also has a beautiful tenor voice) and Mitch (hoop earrings) is a rare counter tenor.

Lots of stuff from PTX. Around 12 years of content 😊

Love this version! I agree that Pentatonix version of Hallelujah is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard!

You cannot go wrong listening to this group. Hallelujah, The Wizard of Ahhhs, 90's Dance Medley, Daft Punk Medley, Amazing Grace, The Prayer, My Favorite Things, Sing, Imagine, Say Something, Run To You, and on and on...OHHH, and do not forget Bohemian Rhapsody - you should really listen to that next!! And yes, that is how they sound. They are absolutely the best. The beeat boxer, Kevin Olusola, also plays cello and sings and his cover of Marian Hill's "Down" uses a looper and is an amazing one-man band production in real time.

You can see their live performance from the Hollywood Bowl last fall on YouTube. The team are Scott Hoying (baritone), Mitch Grassi (counter tenor), Matt Sallee (bass), Kirstin (Kirstie) Maldonado (alto), and Kevin Olusola (beat boxer, cello, tenor). Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin have been friends since they were children. Matt joined 6 years ago replacing Avi Kaplan.

I am so happy that you discovered Pentatonix! They are the best Acapella group in the world. They have been making music (covers and originals) for just over a decade. I hope that you dive down this rabbit hole. They have hundreds of hits.

I’ve been a Pentaholic since 2014. Saw them live at our state fair way back when. There are many live songs and you can compare. Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen has a video and a live version from a Christmas special. Just a note, the bass role changed in 2017. Avi Kaplan left and Matt Salle came in. Otherwise the other 4 have been there since the beginning. They won the Sing Off competition with in 2011, and the rest is history. All those performances are on YouTube as well.

Welcome to the vast world of Pentatonix, Fans of Pentatonix call themselves Pentaholics. Pentatonix to date has won 3 Grammy's and was nominated for a 4th last year. Thier a multi platinum recording vocal group who just recently was givin the Star on the Walk of Fame.
As mentioned with previous comments, yes, Hallelujah offical video is a must, it has over 700+ million views and counting. But dont stop there, do a dual reaction to Hallelujah and the 2nd view needs to be thier 2016 Christmas Special which is live. There you can make your judgment on post production or is it just sheer talent.
Thanks, just subscribed.

BTW the beat boxer sings as well. His voice is so pure. Amazing grace that they did, omg. Bohemian rhapsody it took them 5 years. No instruments just them making the music. It's crazy too
