Singing in tune is mandatory. Look at it this way...even if you want to sing out of tune, learning to sing in tune is necessary to make sure that you don't accidentally sing in tune!

This video is broken down into tips for beginner's, intermediate/advanced vocalists and pros. While the tips apply across the board, there are some very predictable problems that occur at those different stages of our singing development. I talk about them here, offer some video suggestions and some thoughts about how you can sing better in tune!

Thanks for watching!

I'm always baffled when people put a thumbs down on something so clear and helpful, go somewhere else and do something positive for yourself folks.

I like the way you explain things. Subbed.

+Robin Nixon - I for some reason could neither respond directly to your comment nor read it in it's entirety. I saw part of it which related to 'pitchyness.' If you wouldn't mind, try posting again so I can respond.

Thanks!

I'm glad you've mentioned the importance of knowing your fach. I've heard another teacher mention it had no importance whatsoever when learning to sing as you can learn to expand your range. To me, depending on your fach, you still have some limits even though with training yes, you can expand your range to a certain extent. You can damage your voice by stretching your voice beyond those limits.

Another clever video from jeff!
The example of Thom Yorke made me want to hear you analyse some vocalist, it would be really helpful.
Thank you!

It is nice to be refreshed. It is kinda basic for me to be in tune. The basic rule of thumb is ...if you are given a pitch and you hit it and theres 2 pitch coming out then your out of tune. I totally agree in the flatness of the higher range when the technique is not developed. In addition to that is the loudness of the high register when you try to be in tune with a super chest voice which eventually result to vocal fatigue.

Before I met you Sir Jeff there was one song that made me sick the following day after hitting the G#4's and B4's in a fast and poprock sounding song. It turns out that I had a wrong technique and my vowels are not aligned. Now B4 is not a problem anymore.

This has been yet again, another very helpful video. I am having to relearn singing as my range is entirely different now and I have not studied or practiced in 20 years. I am using your tenor and alto combined to cover my natural range, which seems to land in the contralto range, and sometimes the mezzo alto when I want to work it out a bit, but was wondering if you had any specific recommendations for a lower, raspy female voice?
