We certainly wouldn't DIY anything if insurance companies and physicians weren't such swindlers.

I went to my provider. Told them I had skin tags I needed removed. They said they needed to examine me first and see if that’s the case. They made me get an appointment 60 days out. I went 2 months later. Sat for 2 hours in waiting room although I had appointment. Was sent to exam room. Sat unclothed in cold room for 30 minutes before doctor arrived. They looked at them. Verified they were what I said they were. Rescheduled to remove. Three weeks later was next appointment. I was 10 minutes late. They charged me $35 no show. Wtf..told them if I had arrived on time I still would have waited 2 hours anyway. Wanted to know if they pay $35 to patients for their lost time and not honoring THEIR exact appointment time.. Rescheduled for 2 weeks later again. They removed about 10. Rescheduled for more. Doctor didn’t think some were necessary to remove. I did. That’s why I was there. Charged me a fortune. Strung out the costs, on top of that I pay huge insurance premiums. This is why we try to DIY. I bought a freezing kit from Walmart. Froze off three new ones with no problem. Cost $20 and easy.

You've said, basically, there are no effective DIY solutions - go to the doctor and pay exorbitant fees (because insurance is not the answer) - that's the only solution. My dermatologist gets $150 for each "surgery" (1 tag = 1 surgery) with no guarantee the tag won't come back. There has got to be some alternative for those of us that are on a budget.

My experience is that I was that person- obese, and every year my blood glucose crept higher. I had lots of skin tags! When my dr wanted to prescribe metformin, that was my wake up call. Changed my diet, started exercising, lost the weight and my blood glucose, triglycerides and high blood pressure were all resolved. All but one of my skin tags turned crusty and fell off- I don’t know if that is typical or not. 4 1/2 years later they have not returned. Editing to add that the 1 big tag I had right under my bra band was removed by my dermatologist.

I asked my provider to remove one that I have and she said I have to pay $200. I nearly fell off my chair. That's insane. I work in healthcare (on the financial side) and I am flabbergasted.

What helped me with some skin tags on my neck was glycolic acid toner and glycolic acid cream. They will dry up but it will take a few weeks. The way I found that out was I noticed a couple on my face completely disappeared after starting to use glycolic acid products. Otherwise, I wouldn't try any DIY on myself.

Dr. Dray I can't thank you enough for making these videos. Thanks to you I traded my scented face creams and soaps for gentle cleansers and moisturizers. I also skip my foundation as much as I can and always apply sunscreen (spf 30 or higher) and my skin looks and feels so much better. You're the best! ❤🙌🏼🤗

My mom has these and so do I. Neither of us had/have diabetes. They run in my family so maybe a genetic component?

My dermatologist did ok the use of over the counter skin tag remover solutions, and it’s just the “wait time which can be up to 2 weeks “ is the only downside vs a removal in office. Obviously the cost comparison is huge with in office being much more expensive. Love my dermatologist- reasonable, honest and good at her expertise.

I thought they use iodine for medical procedures as an antiseptic/ antibacterial? Why would it be bad?

I had a dermatologist years ago use a straight razor to remove some skin tags on my neck. Took seconds did not bleed.

Dr Dray I suggest that you talk about tattoo removal perhaps next time, and if it's possible to get rid of them completely.

What about the little tags on your eye lids??

I was using baking soda as a deodorant and it caused so much skin shedding the skin tag just dissolved.

I had two isolated skin tags in non delicate areas that my husband helped me remove by tying a piece of thread tightly around the base. It cut off the blood supply and they fell off after a couple of days. They did not grow back.

Great information! My provider removed some skin tags on my neck area and did not hurt at all. I was very pleased at how smooth the removal process was.
