Regardless of how you feel about ligatures, VS Code allows you to switch them on or off. Don't like them? Don't use them!

Two options for haters:
1) Don't use the fonts that support ligatures
2) Turn off ligatures based on project /profiles/language

I actually like ligatures, not because they are necessarily a good idea for programming, but rather because I just want to have fun with my fonts from time to time 😅

but why would people care if one uses them or not? it is completely local to the person using them

Why do people have strong opinions about this? This is all down to user settings; it doesn't affect other people working on the codebase or the end product.

The only ligature i dislike is the </ one bc it makes my html and jsx look wacky

I just think it makes it harder to visually scan and edit the operators. Personally no but not too vested in the issue :) - zm-cttae, VS Code contributor

Nice, I just discovered this in another vs code video. Could you suggest more fonts that vs code accepts to do this? Like fira code and the one showed today (Victor mono) ? I preferred the look of the original font from vs code but I like using font ligatures

Your example fi looks like h, maybe that's why?

Only problem is when I come across one that I have no idea where it came from, what is and how it was created.
Almost need a tooltip or something to explain.

I'd say it's fine for personal use, but if you need to share the code you might want to leave it as the default font

There are also examples in English language where not to use a ligature. Take "deaf‌ly": It's not a dea fly but an adverb. There shouldn't be an automatism to always use ligatures.
