Since they have hot food there must be a means of heating water. So no need at all to be cold at night. A hot water bottle plus a beanie = warm and toastie = better performance.

I heard that 50 bikes didn't even make it to any bivouac at all. No tent, no sleeping bag, no food, no water... That must have been brutal.
