What a pleasure it is to watch and listen to a seasoned engineer at work. You remind me old the things my Dad used to tell me when we were rebuilding engines.

I tend to do similar budget rebuilds so it’s nice to see that an Expert like Dave considers such builds acceptable.

Excellent information. Using a bamboo pin, hardened in the torch, makes it hard as steel. Polished with file and fine sandpaper, place the pin retaining ring without danger of scratching the piston. Thank you very much!

Very enjoyable, but do a 65 degree cross hatch on the bore. If if remember correctly that is what the manual said. Maybe not 65, but a cross hatch.

Excellent video Dave. Well presented and highly informative. I’m currently rebuilding an 850 Commando Mk3 engine. OK it’s a pre-unit unlike your A65 but some of the tips you provide are invaluable to the likes of me who’s learning the ropes. Please keep them coming!

When I fit piston circlips/snap rings, I put a wood dowel through the gudgeon pin. If the clip pings off the dowel stops it flying off into the undergrowth.

Really enjoying your engine rebuild.
Just wondering about the ring with top written on it, I would have thought it went on the top and the one with the dot would be no 2. Mark’s facing up of course.

So the gearbox is sealed from the primary 1 question answered just by watching.... how much oil goes into the primary case? Gunna do the stator and clutch on a 77 bonnie hoping parts will be here by this weekend
