In recent years, the UFC has run into a problem where a dominant champion defeats the #1 contender twice or more, and that person becomes a bodyguard for the division.
In featherweight, it’s Volkanovski and Holloway,
At welterweight, it was Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington
At Middleweight, it was Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.
All 3 champions, are or were very dominant, and each of these top guys were left to defeat the up-and comers.
The problem is, it backlogs the division, because it’s hard to justify the #1 contender getting another title shot, but the fresh faces can’t get past the bodyguard in a division

Agree about Whittaker and Holloway, but don't agree about Colby, considering his only win against an active UFC fighter in the last 4 years is Robbie Lawler.

It is a tough situation to be in. Hard to continue to give the same man the opportunity, but if he puts himself in that position he deserves the shot, whether he lost to the same man 2 times or not. If it’s the best fight the best, defending #1 contender deserves a title shot

If the guy failed 2 Recent title shots but then goes on to beat like 2 other Top contenders back to back he should get another title shot.
(Eg: Max vs Volk / Whittaker vs Izzy)

It doesn't matter if they have to fight 5x ..
If the 'Bodyguard' keeps beating the rest of the other contenders he should get another shot again & again & again.

UFC needs to cast a wider net in terms of searching for talent. It seems like they mainly focus on North America, Brazil, UK, parts of Africa, and Australia/NZ.

Whittaker is THE biggest gatekeeper literally all of Adesanya's defenses he has defeated thos guys too, Max is up there as well but Colby hell no dude hasn't beaten a contender in years
