In 1787, a group of farmers from Massachusetts were led by Daniel Shays to the Springfield Armory, where they intended to take the weapons from that building and use them to overthrow the state government in Boston. This marked the first time in which a group of citizens actively looked to rise up and rebel against a state government. The results of this event proved to be beneficial for the nation as it led to the creation of the Constitution.
