LIVE: President Donald Trump's Address to Congress

President Donald Trump took the lectern Tuesday for his primetime address before Congress beset by warning signs about the US economy, and acknowledged to Americans there could be more discomfort ahead. Trump defended his tariff plan, saying it would raise "trillions and trillions" in revenue and rebalance trading relationships, despite acknowledging it may cause economic pain. Trump's speech also focused on issues like transgender rights, migrant crime, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, with relatively little discussion of consumer prices and inflation. This was a "Balance of Power" special followed by the speech to Congress and the Democratic response.

The tariffs are not some type of esoteric "call-the-bluff" negotiation tactic to "threaten" stakeholders into doing US bidding. They are discussed in the "mar-a-largo" accord to maintain US competitiveness in the face of the strong US dollar and may also be key to lowering interest rates.

Best audience ad-lib of the night came at 1:49:00 when Trump was going through the list of 100+ year olds receiving social security. His final: "And one person is listed at 360 years of age." Comment from the peanut gallery: "JOE BIDEN". It was far enough away as to be barely audible, but it certainly elicited laughter there onsite.
