This video looks at the new and improved music and sound unmixing processes in Steinberg SpectraLayers 11. The enhanced song unmix tools include improved unmix drums and new modules for unmixing sax and brass, unmix chorus for separating vocals and backing vocals and unmix crowd noise for separating stage and crowd sounds into independent layers. And with the new transfer tool, it’s easy to move any transients or harmonics which should be in a different layer to the correct one. SpectraLayers 11 truly takes spectral editing audio processes to a new level.

Really impressive update. In future versions, I’d love to see unmix for strings added, as well as an intelligent and reliable process for converting unmixed audio to MIDI.
Keep up the great work!

If the comparisons between 10 and 11 are true and not altered in any way: WOW!

Is it capable of removing reverbs and delay fx from extracted unmixed vocals for as close to dry vocal? Impressive demonstration, btw...

Amazing.

So does that mean a mastering engineer could "unmix" a song, then treat the stems separately (EQ etc) and it will still be phase coherent and there's no artefacts? Or does EQ'ing an individual stem introduce artefacts straight away?

SpectraLayers 10 couldn't compete with RipX for unmixing tracks SpectraLayers 11 now destroys RipX, well done Steinberg more than impressed.

I'm a first-time Spectralayers user. Just got the Pro 11. I am not familiar with the interface at all. Kind of lost a little bit. Lol.
I'm struggling with the transfer tool, which is critical to cleaning the layers. It looks like I'm missing a step
I'm currently going through the operational manual. A lot of literature...

This a great piece of software!

Holy S**t! So now I can take a 2 channel bus mix and turn it into a complete and flawless multitrack STEMS mix, do any punch-ins, overdubs, or crowd mutes, and remix and master, and done?! OR, I can take a multitrack session and remove spillover to crispy up the mix and remove muddiness or other artifacts!! WOW, just wow!! I can see recording bands live, then remove the vocals, then re-record the vocals in the booth. So many options, this is the sickest tool ever! It's like I don't even need isolation rooms anymore! This tool seems indispensable for anyone recording live who wants to refine it in post. I can also see use cases for isolation from samples, then in Reason "right click > Convert Audio to MIDI", and so on... wow, just wow.

The quality of the vocal isolation in extreme mode is breathtaking. It's worth the wait for extreme mode to process. I can not believe in this mix of mine with a vocal with a panned and poor stereo image and reverb galore that Spectralayers 11 isolated it to perfection. When I first heard Acon Unmix, I presumed all tools would be about that quality (i.e. not very good) but this is in a different league.
The one and only thing I was going to miss from leaving Logic Pro permanently for Pro Tools was the new integrated unmix feature, but I have Spectralayers 11 which works with pro tools and does an amazing job, better than Logic and for more than just 4 parts, so I don't even miss that feature in Logic anymore. All I have to do is click 'send to spectralayers' and then I get the full features of spectralayers, then just "render to pro tools" when done, basically instant, and the file gets updated in PT. Pro Tools for some reason doesn't see the ARA version of spectralayers, but Avid told me there's more ARA updates coming soon for more apps. So far the only two it doesn't see as ARA are Spectralayers and Acoustica, but both work with the above method which is just fine for now. Nuendo doesn't see Izotope RX 11 spectral editor as ARA, so there's always something with every DAW, and RX11 ARA works perfectly in Pro Tools. That said, I have to wonder if there's any point to it as Spectralayers is just so good. But the Izotope one is very streamlined and fast if you just need to supress something or match missing content. Melodyne and the Synchroarts tools just work beautifully in PT and tbh I think PT has the best ARA of any DAW in the actual feel, speed and overall usability. When Acoustica and Spectralayers work as ARA it will be unbelievable for me. Can't wait. Steinberg, Spectralayers is an amazing tool. Between that and Acoustica, I feel zero need for Adobe Audition or Wavelab any more either ;)

I had some troubles with Dutch in version 10, because we have a hard G, same as in Arabic, and it wouldn't see it as vocal. I wonder if version 11 will work better!

really useful comparison, something that another restoration software suite company would never do cause each of their update has barely any improvement over the previous version.
