I want to poach donkey Kong and his friends

The fact he doesn’t immediately stop grinning, but keeps it up in case he comes back.
This is one of the reasons I love this master piece!

He's the leader of the bunch,
you know him well,
he's got some trauma
he's afraid to tell.
His self-confidence can come in spurts.
If he loses it,
he'll feel so hurt.
He's depressed, and repressed, and detached too,
He's isolated himself from the DK Crew!

DK has been taking it pretty hard ever since he heard that Chunky's dead.

What hurts me with DK's last face is that he's not even sad, he's not even angry. His eyes doesn't even change position. They just scream "discomfort". But like they say " Big smile ! Thumbs up !" they hide everything. Even the most obvious things.

And that, my friends, is not OKAY.

Everyday DK stares at his coconut gun more each day, we don't know who the target is, but whoever it is its gonna hurt.

_It's been nearly a decade since the spark left DK's eyes._

_There was a time when he was on top of the world, with his name in every arcade; a time when opportunity flowed like wine and the world was bright and sweet as a banana._

_He still remembers pouring his heart and soul into his "Country" project, inspired by his old co-star's monumental success in the platforming genre. He did so well, it wasn't a surprise when management green-lit a sequel. What WAS surprising was that he'd been pulled from the starring role, and was now little more then a glorified prop._

_He was too old, the producer said. The Suits wanted someone who'd appeal more to the youth._

_By the time they finally let him take back the reigns of the series in "Country Returns, " 2D platformers had long passed out of popularity. It was far from the success of his past, but DK was certain if he could just convince audiences to give him a chance, he'd shine as bright as he once had. So when he heard talk of a new console amongst the higher-ups, he burned every professional favour he had left to convince management to let him helm a launch title. The resulting performance he delivered was without a doubt the finest of his career._

_It would surely have earned Kong the recognition he so craved, had it not been trapped on such an underselling console._

_Management hasn't returned his calls since. His old co-star continues to find him cameos and minor roles in what projects he can, but it just isn't the same. And every night he can't escape the gnawing notion that maybe... it won't ever be the way it was again. After all, where else can one go from the top of the world but down?_

*TL;DR: DK not OK*

It's OKAY to let out your feelings, DK. We're here for you. This is a safe space.

I thought this would be horror. But no donkey Kong is simply putting up the facade of being ok to a friend so he doesn't worry.

He has no style, he has no grace

This Kong is in a bad headspace

In Donkey Kong 64, you hear "OKAY" when you save the game as an indication that it was successfully saved. Do you understand, now?

Donkey Kong needs to be saved.

It kinda hurts with how relatable this is...

His smile? Gone.
His joy? Non-existent.
His heart? Burdened with sorrow.
His mouth says "OKAY!" but his eyes say "Decay."

The overwhelming sense of dread I felt when he started moving in the darkness

man im tearing up over a 40 second animation of DK putting up a fake smile and saying okay over and over,

most accurate depiction of what a NOT OKAY person would act like

holy crap dude this is unreal
you've captured the feeling and tense unease PERFECTLY and somehow maintained that while constantly dissolving all tension

like feel so many emotions from this it doesn't even feel like a shitpost, it's honestly closer to a short film. i don't know how you did it, but you did.

The mass of DK is really pronounced when the shadow of the door slides over him. That guy is solid.

That last part where his smile slowly faded actually made me really sad…
