I bought the yaris for two reasons. Toyotas huge reputation for reliability, and that its the cheapest entry level toyota. This car is for the modest commuter. Its not flashy, or fast, or cool looking. Is cheap, reliable, and simple.

LMAO that tire part is too funny. "carry the tire around the back like a family heirloom."

I LOVE these reviews. I'm not in the market for one of these, but Brian is just plain funny and entertaining! :)

I have a 2007 Yaris and it has worked good! A little more hungry for gas now but still strong in the engine and never had a problem with the engine.

I drive a 2009 Yaris 5speed base model and it has been good to me. Gets around 34 mpg in the city and hasn't given me a problem yet. All I've had to do is routine maintenance, new tires and a battery. I agree this car is probably better with a 5speed than an automatic, small engines usually are. It's nothing fancy, just something to get to work and back in, and I'm happy with it.

Suitable for people who carry blood supplies -- that's classic. You learn to love that 1.5 engine, though. My '05 Scion XB uses the same. It now has 190K miles on it, with very little TLC -- just clean fluids. 84 miles per day, at 75-80mph, still cooking. Changing the oil is the simplest of any car I've had. No ramp, no awkward reaches. If you can live with the "basic transportation" experience, and want to save your cash for important stuff, these are a good deal. "Cheap to keep."

I've got the basic 5-speed manual. I love the simplicity of the car (no stupid gadgets I don't need). It handles very well. Very quiet. Plus excellent reliability, safety, and mileage. I'm very happy with it. Great price, too :)

I drove a 2010 Yaris for a couple months, and honestly, it wasn’t the worst experience ever. It’s cheap, basic, easy and cheap to maintain, and gets you where you need to go reliably. You buy this when you just want a car. As Jeremy Clarkson would say, it’s 14 feet of car (or however long a Yaris is.) I’ve always liked small cars, they are everything you need and nothing more.

Its funny that he slams the Yaris for having a 4 speed auto when it ONLY falls short of the Fiesta Automatic combined MPG, with its needlessly complex 6-speed dual clutch automatic, by only 1 MPG. 32 MPG combined for the Yaris, 33 for the Fiesta. If it really was nearly as terrible as he says it is, the difference should be much much larger. According to Fuely.com they are about the same with their real world averages. Either Toyota got something right or Ford got something wrong.

I had a rental in Costa Rica and it was definitely an $8k car. Came back to my Jetta and it felt like a luxury car in comparison

They're complaining because when you're on the highway, the engine is revving really high which drones into the cabin. Also Every other Subcompact like the Fit, Fiesta, etc all have 5 and 6 speed transmissions and they aren't always gear hunting. And Yes Fuel economy would be better. Case and point, the Manual Yaris. the 5-speed yaris gets 3 MPG better. If the engine is revving lower because of the extra gears, it will get better economy.

did he like it, or hate it?   strange guy, strange review.

I would definitely get the manual as well but there are still plenty of 4 speed automatics and only recently has a 5 or 6 speed automatic become common.
