Average White Band were a Scottish Funk and R&B band from Dundee in Scotland, Pick up the Pieces, and Cut the cake another two great tracks. 🤘😎🎸💀✊ As it was D Day today At the Going down of the Sun and in the Morning WE WILL REMEMBER THEM . 🥀🙏 R.I.P.

I think it's a damn shame how unappreciated Average White Band are. Their dynamic R and B sound rivals anything on the soul and funk catalogs you can think of. Try reacting to their song "Cut The Cake", THAT is a monster!

Astrud Gilberto, passed away today!
She was a Brazilian singer “The Girl From Ipanema” catapulted her to global fame and defined the whisper-smooth mellowness of the bossa nova ...

My husband and I first danced to this at a 12th grade dance in 1975. I love all their music and just saw them a few years ago at a free jazz concert. The funk and the lyrics 🎉

Did you know that 'Microphone Fiend' by Eric B. & Rakim sampled this track for their song?

One of the most sampled hip hop beats of all time

Before this song came out, nobody ever accused sleigh bells of being funky, this changed everything. And yeah, Alan Gorrie's bass line is fonky like an open hamper, fonky like a dirty pamper.

The crazy thing about AWB, is that they're not a group of brothers from New York, or LA or Detroit, they're a bunch of white guys from the small city of Dundee Scotland.

I was a 20-year-old white boy who grew up in an affluent neighborhood in 1975. We listened to all sorts of cool funk in the 60s and 70s. That was the Golden Age of Music.

Guys I'm glad that you enjoy this music so much please do Cut The Cake (1975) next ❤

Awesome band and one of my favorite songs by AWB. I do love Pick Up The Pieces and Cut The Cake. They have so many great tunes.

Their parents were into R&B. That's what they listened to as children. Influence!

One of the greatest rap samples by one of the greatest MCs of all time Rakim. Jay, if you aren't familiar with the song Eric B and Rakim did on this sample you should check it out. It's late 80s rap and the track is called Microphone Fiend and Rakim goes off! You will not be disappointed.

Before the band's name was official, they were the backup band for Bonnie Bramlett's first solo album. She in fact, named them Average White Band. Bonnie would be a perfect choice for Female Friday. She and her husband were known as Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. And their friends were all top studio musicians including Leon Russell, Rita Coolidge and the Dominos, from Eric Clapton's Derek and the Dominos Layla album. Among the musicians who also played and toured with them included Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman and Dave Mason from Traffic. Perfect for Female Friday, Delaney and Bonnie's Lay Down My Burden. You'll get to hear Bonnie's magnificent voice. It's superb. Great reaction y'all!

Jay&Amber, for female Friday: Jackie DeShannon - "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" or "What the World Needs Now Is Love"!!
She’s one of the early singer-songwriters. She co-wrote Put a Little Love in Your Heart. She wrote the music for her original “Bette Davis Eyes”, words by Donna Weiss.
Kim Carnes cover of Bette Davis Eyes was a worldwide hit/record of the year, w/a very different arrangement(which you reacted to)

This was sampled by Too Short in 1988 for his title song on his "Life Is...Too Short" album.

Hey Guys, It's about time you came back for some more AWB!!! "School Boy Crush" is how they laid down the Funk back in the day and it was actually the 1st time ever "sleigh bells" were ever used on a Funk track!!! That's right, what you're listening to right here is funky to the bone and of historic proportion!!! Love you guys!!! Sincerely, CR SoundDoctor
