How did a Russian spy end up at the heart of the Manhattan Project? What happened when Soviet intelligence lost track of their own spy? And how did one man hand Stalin the bomb on a silver platter?

Klaus Fuchs was already one of the most valuable spies in history, feeding atomic secrets to the Soviet Union. But when he disappeared in 1944, his handlers feared the worst. In reality, he was about to get even closer to the ultimate prize: the blueprints for the atomic bomb.

This week, Gordon and David uncover how Fuchs embedded himself in Los Alamos, the most classified site on Earth, and carried out one of the greatest intelligence coups of the 20th century.

I'm loving David's pronunciation of Clauses's sister Christelle. Which genuinely had me perplexed at first, wondering who the hell Chris Dell was!! 🤔😂😂

The lensing is for the uranium bomb, not the plutonium bomb. Tall Boy, the Pu bomb, was relatively simple, and didn't even need to be tested. The Ur bomb is the one with crazy complex electronic timing and hand casted mixtures of high and low explosives for the compression lensing. And that's the type that was tested in Trinity

Will you do an episode on the establishment of the GRU, did it exist in some form for the tsar or was it a total invention of the USSR

What has happened to the use and differentiation between comparative adjectives that are made by putting more in front (e.g. more difficult) and those where er/ier is added to the end (e.g. firmer).

I love the podcast and the topic. But i have to say I didnt appreciate the quite humorless jabs "the BETTER educational institution" - make your teases on account of the british funny or skip them.
