Criminal Defense Attorney Jamahl C. Kersey reacts to the cross-examination of the main witness in the R. Kelly Trial. The main witness in this case has been referred to as "Jane." On direct examination, Jane testified that the sexual abuse started when she was only 14 years old. She said R. Kelly abused her hundreds of times from when she was 14 until she turned 18.
Jane was subjected to cross-examination. The cross-examination was all about attacking Jane’s credibility. It was about exposing how many times she’s lied in the past, and attempting to expose her for being a liar today. Jane and her parents publicly denied she was abused. She lied under oath before a grand jury in the Cook County Case about whether it was her in the video. Jane also admitted making false statements to federal prosecutors when she was first questioned by them in 2019.
The ultimate problem for R. Kelly is he will not be taking the stand to refute what Jane testified to. That may prove to be an unsurmountable challenge for the legendary singer.
