I’ve been waiting on this for years! So frustrating to pick up the probes, test your circuit and the meter switches off!

This sounds like a marketing fail. We have 2025. It needs to be called AI Auto Power Off. Could have charged way more for AIAPO instead of iAPO 😜

I was going to say that I have never noticed my 235 going off whilst using it. And now we know why. 👍

A reason why they decided to make the BM786 power down even when doing measurements might be the higher power consumption (8-10mA @4.5V without backlight compared to the BM235's 3.2mA from the manual or 2.5mA from a review and BM2257's 4mA, both @3V). If the DMM already only has about 40% usable battery life, you need to conserve it even more to not unexpectedly annoy the user and only annoy him expectedly when he forgets to disable APO if needed.

Just bought two, got them today. Working like a treat.

Both of my brymen meters have this feature (BM525 and BM869S). It's one of my favorite things about these meters; So annoying when a meter powers down when I'm using it.

Why the flicker on BN2257 screen ? A bit annoying compared to the older ones...
They seem to like swapping the mA/uA and A positions from time to time so that it's easier to blow off something if you get too used to a model :)

Good video, test and explanation of the feature. One day, could you explain the EEVblog branding on the meters? I saw some videos that gave me the impression you designed the meter, but in other videos you're saying "they" did this or that. I may have been under the wrong impression all along.

Holding out for (hopefully) a higher bandwidth replacement for the 786. i.e. EEVblog BM789

would you like to make a video of the differences and the plus and minus points between the Brymen BM2257 and the Brymen BM235?

I'm glad to know you're stocking them as I saw them a few weeks back. I just wish I knew you had more probes in stock. I just brought 2 pairs through TME and with shipping it came to NZD $80 😭

Maybe the big one switches off by design, more stuff (bigger display, processor, adc, etc) comes with more power consumption?

As the first and only DMM on the workbench for a while, would you recommend the 786 or the 2257?

869s behaves the same, drained quite a few 9v batteries since I often forget to turn it off.

Watchingpaint dry outside was more fun

Will it beep in diode mode? If so I may order a replacement for my 235 :)

If you hold SELECT when powering on the BM786, it won't power off until you do it manually. It's not a smart APO.

I miss the fluke dmm in Dave's videos...

Sure wish the flukes at work did this!
