● ● ● Polish Christmas Carol from Chopin’s First Scherzo ● Cantique de Noël polonaise du 1er Scherzo de Chopin ● Lulajże Jezuniu” - Kolęda z 1-go Scherza Chopina ● ● ● In1830, twenty-year-old Chopin spent Christmas in Vienna, all alone after having left Poland two months earlier. It was then that he drafted his First Scherzo in which a Polish lullaby carol can be heard. This carol, “Lulajże Jezuniu” (“Sleep Little Jesus”), was then and still is one of the most beloved ones in Poland. Here it is, performed very beautifully by Danuta Stenka in the church of Brochów where Chopin’s parents were married and where Chopin was baptized.

Beautiful singing voice and terrific music!  I happen to  be a fan of Polish Christmas Carols.

The original comes from the seventeenth century or earlier - Fryderyk Chopin "Lulajże, Jezunia" quoted in the middle part of the scherzo in B minor op.2
