Subaru BRZ Review! Driving Subaruwrxfan's BRZ!

And here we have a video many have been waiting for. It was now time for me and Subaruwrxfan to trade cars and get each other's first impressions.It was a complete blast, and I go through a little backstory of how we ended up in Pittsburgh. I'm glad you said it: "I don't really feel like there's a lack of power."  It seems so silly to me that so many people whine about the power level of the car.  You say it as a person who owns a 400HP car.  200HP is a moderate amount of power even in today's terms, especially in a pretty light car.  I got the chance to autocross someone's BRZ, and the last thing I thought was this car needs more power.  It really doesn't, at least not in stock trim.  I say it as a person who owns a 400HP car.  I find it crazy to call the 200HP Toyoburu underpowered.  I think it's more a byproduct of being spoiled by all the new hot hatch turbos popping up rather than a balanced perspective of actual car use.  I was surprised how well it carried speed and relied much less on HP through the auto-x course.  I so rarely had the pedal to the floor simply because it wasn't needed.  In sheer contrast, something like the Civic Si, again a similar contender in the sport car field from the fwd segment requires full throttle significantly more.  I found myself flooring the Civic Si so much more, even through sweeping corners which is completely counterintuitive but at the same time designed into that car's handling behavior (the setup relies on the turn-in pull of the front end on throttle).  That was a similarly classed car that felt like it was 50HP underpowered, while I could have easily lost 25HP from the BRZ and not cared one bit.  The BRZ carried speed through corners, so there was not significant need for rocket acceleration on exit.  Plus the balance is close enough to neutral that one doesn't need heavy throttle to transition to oversteer.  The gearing is also set up very well with a really low 1st and good ratios on up.  You can spin the tires from a stop and be in the power band everywhere.  The package is really well thought out and not particularly lacking.

What I like most about this and subaruwrxfan's reviews... they are both able to enjoy both cars and see them for what they are.  Nice to see people not acting like the car is part of their family heritage! Both are cool cars that are a ton of fun.

The clutch in the BRZ is much more light, and the Mustang's is more of a tougher clutch. It engages a little more at the top.
