SWFL Eagles ~ Owl STRIKES Harriet & DRAGS Her To Edge Of Nest! Extreme Vocals! M Rushes To Protect!

3.9.21 ~ Tonight at 10:02 PM a GHO struck Harriet and dragged her to the edge of the nest! Harriet's foot grabbed onto E18's right wing and she griped the edge of the rails with her talons. E18 looks to be okay just shaken up a bit as Harriet goes into full alert vocals calling out for M. He comes rushing over from the west pasture in full alarm mode as he lands on a branch above the nest. He drops to the nest to be with Harriet (almost stepping on E18) as they both sounded the alarm for several minutes and looked towards the front pines.
M stays on the nest until the threat passes, then he flies up to the attic with vocals. Harriet remained awake and watchful on the nest as they both are on guard duty for the rest of the night from the owl attacks. Footage includes regular time and slomo with full multi cam coverage. This was by far the most serious attack we have seen by the owl and could have ended up injuring not only Harriet but one of the E's in the fray. Two owls and an owlet were seen in the west pasture today, it is not known if this is one of the owls that has been targeting our eagle family. They are sharing a territory and so these attacks are likely to continue & it is likely that the owls are just protecting their owlet from what they view as a threat from the eagles. It does present a great risk to the E's when they are sleeping standing up on the nest like Harriet did tonight and when they start to branch but can't fly yet. We are watching this unfold live and anything can happen but I pray that no harm will come to any of the eagles and that these strikes will stop.

I am thankful that they have a large nest which afforded her room to be struck, and yet not be knocked completely off of the nest...
I am thankful that neither of her babies were harmed, and that neither of them were knocked off the nest...
This is the way nature works, but I am still praying fervently that these “stealth strikes” will not continue to happen...
When I saw the notification, I was in the middle of another video which I stopped and came immediately to here, to find out what happened!
But as long as he still strikes to continue, I pray that they will never injure any of the Eagles…
As for the owl, to be honest, I haven’t prayed that it won’t get injured through it’s actions...

No wonder Harriet is still staying on the nest with the Es at night. The owl could just as easily grabbed/dragged an E, pushing it off the nest, or seriously injuring it.

Poor Harriet & M ! They must be running on little rest. I'm so glad they are as one, they are strong & healthy, sure don't want either of them hurt, if it turns to fighting.

Owls really are crazy. Imagine attacking something bigger than you every night with zero fear of retaliation or getting injured.

That owl is a menace..and relentless! These attacks are almost nightly. I've never seen so many attacks on this nest. Harriet and M15 get the brunt of it. As good parents, Harriet is on the nest at night, with M15 nearby. It is scary this is happening so often...with the E's at risk.

Crazy when you think GHO’s weigh just 3 - 4 pounds (on average)...so much lighter than bald eagles! But, I read that a GHO can carry 3X their body weight!! 😳

My worst fears. If the owl nest across the way are the same attackers then I hope their babies fledge soon and they will move away. Poor Harriet and E18. Ouchies. Hoping this turns out well for all. The territories have been scrunched.

wskrsnwings has posted a video showing an owl's nest in another tree in the same pasture where this nest is, showed an adult owl and an owlet in her video. Wonder if that's the same owl that's been bothering H & M so much this season (?)

Oh my!! I never knew owls can do these things to eagles. Pray all eagles are ok.

This just gives you full appreciation of owls and their speed. NatGeo has let them all down with their super slowmo shots of owls attacking, you miss out on the supreme speed they have with those attacks.
