Why you SHOULDN'T buy an old all in one liquid cooler (AIO)

After buying an original Corsair H100 from eBay, I realized two things: 1 buying an old all-in-one liquid cooler is a bad idea. 2 I also realized that I should be much more careful on eBay.

Yep "open box" means that it should be close to new but with an open box. Not used.

Things I wouldn't buy second-hand from e-bay:

(1) A toothbrush
(2) An AIO cooler

I'm running an H50 that I bought in 2010. It's still chugging away, no hiccups, no issues.

Ad reads, "Original 1875 H100 hardly ever used, except for every day".

So, the guy's cooler stopped working and instead of throwing it out he sold it.

Bought this AIO when i had my old i7 4790k in 2013, lots of memories playing TF2 and other games on it, also I remember buying this cpu cooler because DasBoschitt had a smiliar cooler in his new (back then) computer build. great video Dawid!

I’m Italian and I must say, that’s the best way to describe Italian cars in general, even new ones have the bad habit of imploding during hot days

This is why I cannot recommend a water cooler second hand, or keeping one you bought outside the warranty.

For the cost of a powerful 240mm AIO you can get a Noctua nh-d15 which cools just as well and doesn't risk vomiting it's internals all over your graphics card

I bought the Corsair H60 (first AIO), back in 2013/2014 to be used with my then i7 3770k. I eventually swapped it out for an air cooler, after getting bored of the "aquarium" hum coming from the pump. Suffice to say, that was a "used" unit as well lol, but the seller was extremely kind and gave me a copy of the invoice in case it needed to be warrantied later on down the road. The cooler still works surprisingly, it sits in the junk box nowadays with the 30 years worth of cheap case fans I've gutted from new cases friends/family bought because they wanted better quality stuff.

that was a misrepresented ebay item. return immedietly

That's why I prefer air " in terms of reliability ". You can keep using the same aircooler for years and the only thing that could happen is the fan dying and it's an extremely easy fix.

Fantastic educational stuff. I've only recently started really digging into this type of hardware learning, and answering a question of how liquid coolers work so thoroughly and showing us the inside was freaking rad. Definitely have a shelf life. I will keep that in mind to tell the person I eventually sell my PC to (after I've built a new one in a couple years - just built in January)

I have a Corsair H100i, the original one, somewhere on a shelf. I noticed that after 5 years it started to make a slushing noise. I looked it up and it has to do with the slight evaporation that occurs over time through the tubes. From what I read this happens to all water cooling, even custome loops. Tubes are all slightly porous . I replaced it with the H100i Pro RGB. I ended up paying the same price for both units(110$), the original H100i from NewEgg and the RGB from my local best buy. I kept the old one because it still works, but not as well. I run everything overclocked, so keeping temps down is important to me.

Bought mine back in 2012. Still going strong. 3rd system using it in, my Ryzen is happy :)

Just started running my 12 year old H100 again. I drained the coolant, flushed with de ionized water (very clean inside) and filled with EK Cryofuel. It has been in storage since 2017 so thought it best to service it and check the pump works ok before putting it into my latest build. It doesn't light up anymore and you can't alter the pump speed, that all packed up in about 2015. It's safe as houses though, only going to be on an old Haswell which will be overclocked as far as I can push it but it was fine with my FX 8150 back in the day.

Dawid I know this is an old video but it came up in my recommended. Anyway you're genuinely one of the best tech youtubers out there. Your videos and titles are so nonsense with just the right amount of humour. Please never change man, love your stuff.

I bought a refurbished H80i back in 9/24/2014, right when i bought my new GtX 970, both of those components are still going strong to this day, and no issues with the AIO.
