Why LGBT Trump Voters Aren’t Welcome in the LGBT Community

People seem to think that you can vote for Trump or Conservative parties and be part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Some LGBT people did vote for Trump and others around the world have voted for Conservative Parties.

This video explains why it is reasonable for LGBT people to choose to distance themselves from such people.

It also explains why it’s not intolerant to do so. This video explains the tolerance paradox and why it’s important to understand.

Disclaimer: I used the word “gays” in the title for brevity and because gay people are the overwhelming majority of LGBT Trump supporters.

Members of other sub identities voted for Trump and do vote conservative as well so I wanted to state that.

Disclaimer: the title says "Trump voting gays" for brevity and because gay-identifying people were the majority of LGBT people who voted Trump. However a small number of other LGBTQIA+ people also voted for Trump.

This is the classic tolerance paradox.
The question is often: "Does a tolerant group need to be tolerant of things that would bring about its destruction?"
And I agree with your answer, which is a clear no.

I’m a cis gender African American female. This was the most cogent breakdown of what “inclusion” means and I have to say that, even though I felt inherently what you were saying, it wasn’t until I watched your video that I could put it into words, which is that inclusion is accepting ppl based on traits that they cannot change, not ideologies.

As a black woman, I have deep concerns for African Americans. But who would I be if I didn’t extend that concern to the LBGTQ community, the Muslim community, the Jewish community, women, Latinos, etc? I am concerned for all marginalized groups. The only thing that gives me comfort is that there are more of us than there are of them. Let’s please use this time to come together more and celebrate what we have in common with each other — fulfilling our purpose and our deepest longings, in WHATEVER way that may be (I’m from the school of, Stay out of other ppl’s damn business). Otherwise they win.

The simplest breakdown I have heard for this is: "Tolerance is a peace treaty".
The MAGA haven't signed it, so why should their demand to be granted its benefits be honored?

I'm gay as well. Honestly I don't want to deal with anyone supporting a party who hates me.

There is a thing called the tolerance paradox. Meaning: if you are so tolerant, that you tolerate intolerance, you are just supporting intolerance, because you end up allowing intolerant people to spread their intolerance. And that's why it is not hypocritical to exclude Trump voters from inclusive spaces.

Only recently (on a historical scale), LGBTQA+ people were granted equal rights in some states, some parts of the world. Voting for someone who wants to take them away from us is beyond my comprehension. These people have been heavily misled or brainwashed. Either way, the harm was done

Trump supporters literally spent years calling LGBT people PDF files, and then they voted for Jeffrey epstein's best friend 😔

Nobody is born a Trump-voter. That's an active choice and choices have consequences.

This makes me happy: I sponsor a LGBTQ+ club in my middle school. It started with four kids. Now we’re up to fifteen! You should see their faces!!! 🥰
That’s how I’m helping my community.🏳️‍🌈🇺🇸🏳️‍⚧️

I’m so happy to see you talking about this because people in general are a bit too casual about bigotry.

Also, “difference of opinion” is for pineapple on pizza, not about human rights.

I'm struggling. I'm struggling so much. I am 54 years old, barely out of the closet and just now beginning a gender awareness journey and now this. I am so tired and I feel like it will never, ever be ok to be myself in this country. And I have fought through so much to try to just simply be myself and know peace.

This isn’t about politics, it’s about morals. If you voted for him your morals are incompatible. Simple.

Over in the My Little Pony fandom, we also don’t accept the “conservative bronies” for similar reasons. (They usually have their own small online circle.) This is such a huge safe space for not just the LGBTQ crowd, but the neurodivergent too. The conservatives are absolutely infuriating to put up with. We literally built this community to GET AWAY from these judgmental idiots who denigrate women and minorities, because the fandom revolves around healthy emotional expressions and relationships, from a show featuring a mostly female cast no less! Why in the world would we tolerate them when they attack us and then call it a joke?

My first question upon meeting people is who did you vote for. Either “Trump” or “I don’t really follow politics” (a complete, intentional dodge) gets instant block, conversation over. I have the same response to anyone saying “feminism has gone too far”.

Defending yourself isn't being intolerant, it is fighting against intolerance. Right wing is good at twisting things to push false narratives, ones that harms others.

One should never feel obligated to tolerate intolerance.

I think as bisexuals we're unfortunately just used to friendly fire. The wider acronym is probably a lot more shocked.
Today I think we need something a little lighter. I remember as a teenager walking in my neighborhood and I saw another girl who I didn't really know well walking down the other side of the street. She looked down at her phone and got this big genuine smile on her face, and I remember feeling so happy to see her smile. She was beautiful, and it made my heart light, and I couldn't help but also smile. (I looked down at my phone so I wasn't just staring at her grinning, I didn't know else to look.) That wasn't my first feeling I felt for another girl I remember, but it'll always be what I remember when I'm sexualized for being bi. There wasn't anything sexual about it, I just fell in love with a girl's smile as a young queer person. I didn't realize what those feelings even were until I was 30 because they just seemed so natural my whole life. Like, surely this is how everyone is.

I have a coworker who voted for Trump. It is hard for me to feel comfortable working with him now.
