How to get a Real ID?

Calling all travelers! The Department of Homeland Security is requiring you to get a new form of ID. It's called a Real ID and if you want to travel, you must have one by October 1, 2020. There's been a lot of confusion about how to get a Real ID. A spokesman from the California DMV, tells us what you need to get yours.

The " MUST HAVE" to fly has been pushed back to 2025, unfortunately. CA has it all figured out now and it appears that they have gotten the process of renewing your drivers license or state ID card cleaned up and speed-ed up. It was easy for me even in the middle of the COVID debacle. Requires birth certificate or naturalization papers to prove you are a US citizen. You also have to submit proof of residency, which can be a receipt for utilities on your home in the state. There are several options to show proof of residency.

But, if you have a passport card, you do not need the Real ID, as you passport shows of what country you are a citizen and all the other info to prove who you are.

I tried to get into a military base to drop off my wife at work and the officer said I can't enter...I told him, I have a REAL ID though. He just laughed (he probably thought that I was saying that it wasn't a fake ID) and said I'm not letting you in without a sponsor.

I already had a real ID on my drivers license, since my license expired I paid $37, - to renew my license, DMV removed my real ID sign of my class C license, and mailed me a regular class C license, so I to visite DMV in person they charged me another $30, - to switch back my original drivers license with real ID sign on it, this is a real fraud, and new ways to rippingoff seniors in California

I'm not rushing because I can always fly with my passport card. I'm not getting Real ID for now because I don't want to gather the paperwork to go to the DMV in person and wait in line. I'm going to use my passport card to fly within the USA. To me, it's just another card to carry, no big deal.
