You won’t believe these AI generated photos…

I share some photos generated by Midjourney version 5 which was just released last week.

The main prompt I used is:

Currently AI is good at filling in the 'blanks'. The photography is based on sampling existing real photos, some copyrighted, and superimposing foreground elements onto them. Adjusting bokeh, burn and dodging, for the final image. It didn't generate original bitmaps pixel by pixel. That's why there is such a stink now among artists and photographers who have their copyrights and trademarks violated.

Did you notice how the prompt with 5 friends at a birthday party with a birthday cake at a restaurant only had 4 people in the photo? Does that mean the 5th person is the person from which the perspective of the picture is made? 🤔

At 7:38 it seems these NEP (non-existing people ) are attending a funeral not a birthday

Significantly there are a number of anomalies such as in the chess game there more than 16 black pieces present; and chess board appears to be at least 10 squares wide; one image of baseball celebrations shows two players with ‘28’ on their back. At a casual glance the photos are convincing.

4:17 Would be nice to add an analysis agent filter. So here we could ask the analysis agent: "what's wrong with this image?" The reply would be "both players should not have a basketball". Then fix it. Ditto for things like wrong number of fingers, etc. I think state of the art image interpretation would be capable of that kind of thing, so a matter of integration perhaps.

Generally speaking, Midjourney doesn't know how to count.

There MUST be a protocol to prove an image is REAL. Ever since Photoshop began I have been concerned about images authenticity and truth. This is a HUGE issue I hope those in control can manage. Remember the controversy when War of the Worlds was broadcast way back in the day of radio. People panicked thinking it was real.

A lot of these photos don't strike me as all that difficult to find on an existing stock photo site. A few of them look like very airbrushed art.

I wonder how much of this is the AI really "creating" original elements and how much is "only" taking elements from existing photos, combining them and adjusting lighting effects. The latter would still be amazing but the former would be several orders of magnitude more impressive and offer very different possibilities.
