How to make a small planter box

For Mother's day, I wanted to make my wife a little planter box for in the kitchen. Something to hold a couple of small succulents.

Like most of my projects, I like to follow an organic process and discover my dimensions as I work.

I had a very long and thin piece of scrap wood that I was saving for some reason and thought this was the perfect opportunity to glue it up and use it for the sides.

I also had some larger thin scraps that I resawed ( previously ) off some chair backs. I definitely could have made this project a lot simple on my self, the glue-up was less than smooth but it worked in the end 😁

I hope you enjoyed this one, and please if you haven’t already, please like 👍 and subscribe 😁

That’s some nice wood for scrap my man! This turned out awesome and I love how you come up with the measurements on the fly and think through your process very quickly.

The wood seems too nice to be scrap wood and makes the planter look major expensive. We enjoyed watching this!!

Beautiful use of scraps, but Mother's day was a long time ago! lol

That was enjoyable and rather restful with a very tidy end result; the little risers are an especially good idea. I have to say though that I found your glueing method a bit baffling! Oh well, all's well that ends well. Cheers mate.

Hi Adam, Great little project that looks really nice. As Mark said nice touch with the risers. The build seemed to be a bit long winded for a butt joint box though. Did you have some issues? I'm sure your wife loved it. Take care Adam. Cheers, Huw

Looks good, but no real joinery here. Dovetail, fingerjoint, or even some contrasting splines would elevate the design and add durability. Still very pretty though.
