Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs. Does it have game? Does it have a purpose for retro builders?

Exploring something a little different this time.
In 2006, Microsoft released a version of Windows XP called Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs.

Its purpose was to allow businesses to run the newer Windows XP operating system, along with enhanced networking and security, until they were able to upgrade their older "Legacy" computers.

This release is interesting in that it was never released to the masses, but rather as part of the Microsoft Software Assurance program. It is a "thin" install of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and just about all the basic Microsoft drivers for the common hardware of the time.

In this video, I go over my "Legacy" ASUS TX97-LE motherboard, AMD K-6 266 MHz CPU, 64 MB RAM and Nvidia TnT2 Vanta video card running this OS.

Does it have game? Not really, and the benchmarks plus sound card issues will tell the tale. Does it have a purpose for retro builders today? Nope 😁

Hey Uncle Mike great video as usual you know it's funny you are the sole person that Uncle Mike Incorporated CEO, technician, payroll, heck everything. That can not be easy at all. I remember hearing about the Microsoft fundamentals but never got to see it actually installed so this was even a first for me and thank you for that. Sorry to be away the last two weeks you have made a lot more and now I need to catch up. Have a good one. For that coffee I think all of us would raise a mug to your 800 subscribers and counting success.

I never heard of that edition, neither surprised by the sluggish performance.
I remember back then with a 128mb ram only, around 90mb was utilized while on desktop.
