- How I included heart rate testing data: I included all data after the 2024 summer heart rate update. 4 workouts were excluded due to issues with the reference device missing signal.
- How I included sleep stage testing data: I included all nights from 01-01-2024 until 2024-05-10 I had data for (the latest data I had data export for). This resulted in 54 nights of data with both good EEG and Whoop data.
Reference devices:

12:27 Sleep Stage Test
22:32 Body Temperature, COVID Detection

Wondering if you should get the Whoop Strap? Well, the Whoop Strap is one of the best all-round health and fitness trackers out there, and I use it every day myself. But, it is also not the absolute best device in any individual category, and I can back that statement up with data. [running] For instance, during most exercises, like running, it can track your heart rate accurately, and it is generally better than 70-80% of devices out there. And the correlations were similar for a second person I tested it on! [/running] [zmax] For sleep stage tracking it is also pretty good, being amongst the second-best devices, though again some devices are outperforming it. And for tracking and displaying your health data it also has one of the best and most interpretable apps out there. [/zmax] The Whoop Strap was even able to predict when I had COVID-19, but there are some caveats there we need to discuss. However, the Whoop Strap is not without its flaws. The data sharing of Whoop has always been pretty bad. It’s your data, so you should have access, and though Whoop has gotten better at this, it is not close to the level of detail that the competition provides. So, whether or not you should get the Whoop Strap really depends on what you want to do with it and how you intend to use it. So, let’s dive right into the data. Before doing that, I should mention I will add an affiliate link to Whoop below, which earns me a commission and supports the channel. I only accepted after testing it, because the Whoop Strap is genuinely something I can recommend to friends and family. Also, Whoop doesn’t even know I am making this video, the data was not filtered, and my opinions are my own.
Overall, I am happy with my Whoop Strap, and I’ve used it for many years now. There is still room for improvement though, and hopefully that’ll come over time. If you want to track everything, from exercise, to sleep, to health, and get an app that shows you that data pretty well, then the Whoop Strap is one of the main devices I would recommend. However, if you are interested in any one thing in particular, like just heart rate, or just sleep staging, there is likely a better device out there for you. And that brings me to the last downside of the Whoop Strap, which is the subscription model. There is no up-front cost for the device, but you will likely pay somewhere around 200 to 250 dollars a year to use the Whoop Strap. The upside is that you get a new device for free when they release a new one.
