A podcast with Khabib and Islam in Russian might be interesting.

This shows Islam did not have any animosity towards Volks team. He was just competing.

Everyone looks at rd4 like the body triangle was the only significant thing but forget islam was winning the exchanges on the feet before they got the floor too. That, on top of the obviously dominant position on the ground (where volk couldnt land any significant shots or get out) means that there was no way in hell to score the round for volk lol.

Damage does trump control time but tapping a guy who is controlling you lightly with the back of your fist isn't really damage.

It’s extremely hard to get out of a devastating body triangle.

Let this not takeaway from the FACT that Islam ended a 12 and 22 fight win streak back to back within 3 months to become champ and defend it 😭

Round 4 was easy round for Islam. Those insignificant strikes from Volk didn’t accumulate to anything.

Hammerfisting your opponent when they have you in a body triangle from the back is hardly "damage", there's little leverage and all arm punching, it's not like elbowing someone that's ontop from someone on bottom.

I like Craig Jones, but he's not being objective here at all - obviously.

To try to make the case that Makhachev with a fully locked in body triangle (one of the most dominant positions in the sport) for a long stretch and continuous submission attempts should result in a lost because of a few pitty-patty strikes from Volk is pretty laughable. I get it though, he's Volks boy so he's grasping at straws to make something happen.

Can't wait for the rematch though, Volk and Islam were each others toughest test by far. Battle for P4P #1

Backfisting your opponent when he has you in a dominant position isn’t winning.

I am a fan of Volk but Islam definetely won the fight. Volk won the third and fifth round, and even the third is debatable.

Getting a body triangle on an opponent as good as Volk takes some seriously good grappling skills and should be given credit when picking the winner of a round, even if there was no immediate, visible damage done. It’s a dangerous and draining position to be caught in.

The fight was either 4-1 Islam or 3-2 Islam

What? You take someone’s back and the judge should score it for the one who couldn’t escape it? Shaking fingers and screaming like a girls is now days a skill? WTF

especialy if you know that punch behind the elbows/back of the head would stop the fight immediately in a real fight when you have the back of your opponent

what is craig talking about ? the body triangle round was 4th round and Islam pieced volk up before he took him down and without much effort took volk down and controlled him. Volk throwed some pillow fists behind his back but they literally do 0 damage.
craig sounds very bitter here
