In this video, I breakdown the trailer for Denis Villeneuve's Dune Part 2 and give you my thoughts on the new footage. What is your reaction to the Dune Part 2 trailer? Paul Atreides leads nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis. Dune is an upcoming epic science fiction film directed by Denis Villeneuve with a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth. The film is an international co-production of Canada, Hungary, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which will cover roughly the first half of the book. The film stars an ensemble cast including Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

The new trailer for Dune Part 2 blew me away and it's probably my favourite trailer of this year. In this video, I breakdown the trailer and give you my reaction to what we saw.

Denis Villeneuve and his team have risen the bar for how a movie should look FOREVER!

Denis Villeneuve's conceptualization of Herbert's DUNE universe is brilliant, astonishing and, at least to my mind, dead on. He has created a seamless, living, and ever expanding view of just how huge Herbert's Dune Universe is... was...and forever will be.

It is transcendent; spanning space and time under Villeneuve's masterful hand and eye. I was unsure at first; having been somewhat disappointed by the previous cinema interpretations. Both being almost vaudvillian...at least to my visions of DUNE.

I am truly looking forward to seeing part II and III.

I think Paul's vision of the golden battle armour from part 1 is Villeneuve alluding to the Golden Path. As Paul's prescient awareness gets stronger the Golden Path becomes clear. I'm hoping that the third film will either combine Messiah and Children or we get a 4th film for Children. :)

My only fear is that there won’t be enough time in one movie to get through the second half of the story, which is even more complicated than the first. But honestly I can’t wait

I’m getting the vibe that the arena fight isn’t a flashback but is in a lighting situation (either artificial or because of a planet’s sun) where it just looks like that. I wonder if there is some in universe explanation where it is for the gladiatorial audiences benefit (like maybe blood will be shown as a really vibrant red or something). I’m very curious as to Alia and the Fenrings showing up and maybe a bit involving Thufir’s status with the Harkonnens

Enjoyed your commentary very much. I am looking forward with great interest to the second film. One of my most vivid memories from the book was the room filled with lush plants, hidden in the Duke's castle on Arrakis, and how shocked Paul Atreides was by its existence given the scarcity of water for human consumption. That room was a powerful symbol of obscene wealth. In the first film, instead of the room, we simply got a row of palm trees, without much explanation of why. The book placed more emphasis on the significance of the choice to preserve the spice rather than make a greener, more hospitable world for the inhabitants of Arrakis, and on how difficult it was to survive without water. No mention of recycling unpleasant bodily fluids in the film! I wonder how the water issue will be treated in Part 2. What surprises me in the trailer for Part 2 is that the Fremen seem to know the messiah story was created to manipulate them. In the book, I think the Fremen believed the messianic prophecy. Curious to see how that plays out. Other than that, the first film was the best adaptation of Dune so far, matching the mood and my visualizations of the book. The trailer for Part 2 makes me think the second film will be as good as the first.
