Best case scenario: a job where you don’t feel like you’re selling your soul and you get along with your coworkers as well as a balanced personal life

Definitely 9-5. The fact that you can clock out and stop worrying is criminally underrated.

As someone who’s currently going through this, I’d rather have a 9-5 and enjoy my weekends and hobbies. I didn’t go to college to hustle for 10 more years right after, I went so I could enjoy life and make decent money while I do it.

I always worry that "Doing what you love" for your jobs will just end up the same as setting your favorite song as a wakeup alarm.

9-5 without a doubt.

Firstly you need a balance between work and life; the type of people who can actually truly work 247 and be fine and passionate is extremely rare and trying to emulate that when you are not one of those types of people is a recipe for mental and physical disaster.

Secondly, I'm a big advocate of the whole "love what you do but don't do what you love" mindset. I love my job but it is so much better for me to be able to go after work and just relax and do my hobby at the pace that works for me with no unnecessary stress added or having anyone rushing me to finish it as if it's a race or something.

the only "losers" are the ones who dictate how others should live their lives.

I spent my 20s severly mentally ill after escaping abuse. The ideas of what I 'should' of been doing only made it worse. I felt filled with shame, and still struggle with it and expectations of where I should (that damn word again) be and what my life should look like. We desperately need more gentle representation of different lives and journeys

Using my hobby as my main source of income destroyed it for me. I ended up shutting it down and not painting for 5 years afterwards, which broke my mom's heart because I used to paint every day. I now work a laid back and well paid 9-5 job in insurance and do my paintings on the side, occasionally selling 1 or 2. It's been amazing.

9-5, I love just laying down on my bed, reading, watching TV, and just chilling after work. You shouldn't have to be special some way to feel content in life. Growing up in an Asian household it was difficult, but I became alot happier when I realize I shouldn't base my worth and happiness based on how other people view me and what their definition of success is.

I have huge respect for the geeks who do what they love even if it pays less .

I watched this kdrama (forgot the name) and the main character's dad said that you should do your second favorite thing as a job and keep your first favorite thing as a hobby. I don't think you need to be that exact lol but it's an interesting concept.

247. Yes the comfort of a 9-5 is nice. But spending your years working for a job you’re not passionate about because you’re scared of discomfort is a waste of a life. Rather give it my all and die happy knowing i tried than working for someone else and never living the life I could’ve.

I feel like once something becomes a job, it loses the whole “want” part. It isn’t out of love but of obligation, and that kinda sucks the fun out of my passion. I’d prefer having a job where I’d be paid decently and get to go home and work my labor of love without the pressures of the outside world

I hate these kind of people. I’m in highschool, and even just hearing them gives me pressure to be extremely successful, or else you’ll lose out on a great life, which is just so untrue. People don’t have to “get big”, or “stay on the grind” in order to have a fulfilling and happy life

It took me to my 30s to realize I don’t have to work a shit ton and not enjoy my life. Now I do my 40 a week and enjoy my life the rest of the time.

I feel like if I was doing something I loved 24/7, I'd quickly stop loving it. I enjoy being busy, but I don't want work to consume my life. A 9-5 is better because I can switch off from it. If I don't really care about my job, then in a sense I'm free because I don't have to mentally connect to it - it's detached from me.
