A baby crow, also called a chick or nestling, is a small, featherless or partially feathered bird when first hatched. It is usually born blind and helpless, relying entirely on its parents for food and warmth. As it grows, soft down feathers appear before the sleek black feathers of an adult crow develop. Baby crows have large, bright blue eyes (which darken with age) and pinkish or grayish beaks that eventually turn black. They make high-pitched calls to communicate with their parents, who feed them a diet of insects, small animals, and regurgitated food. Young crows stay with their family for months, often learning from older siblings before becoming independent.
