Sorry, just letting you know Rock is the answer. Some smashing pumpkins, Tool, Alice in Chains, 80's Iron Maiden and Ozzy. Harry Styles come on. We got to get you 20 somethings back to good rock from the 70's to the 2000's. Out with hip hop and radio pop of the modern era. If you need a break into rock early 80's stuff like Def Leppard PYROMANIA or Iron Maiden Power slave.
The gear will come with your career but yes the suitcase record player has got to go as soon as you can afford it. Go with a modern TT probably in the 400-500 range as vintage gear is quite expensive now. Have fun as the whole hi-fi chase is a rabbit hole you might never get to the bottom of the hole.
