Seeding can be a pain. Watch as I show you how I failed in the fall seeding my lawn and dominated in the spring. I planted three species of grass in my lawn. Barenbrug RPR, Barenbrugs newest cross product of RPR and CSI, as well as Ryan Knorr Elite Turfgrass.

Last fall I decided to kill 2/3rds of my lawn out to test out three varieties of grass. After killing out my lawn I started seeding October 15 2023 . my lawn and soon ran into some weather issues. I planted october 15th and by October 30th we had several hard freezes. To my surprise 40% of the barenbrug rpr/csi survived and 65% of the ryan knorr turf elite grass survived. The harsh winter temperatures kept the ground temps below 40 degrees from October 25 all the way through April 15th.

April 25th I re planted my grass. I started by dethatching my lawn, scarifying it, replanting the grass seeds using a drop spreader. I used 4 lbs of csi/rpr and 3lbs of ryan knorr elite turfgrass. I used another 3.75cu yards of peat moss to cover the grass seed and watered sufficiently as to not allow the seed to dry. 40 days later I have an incredible looking lawn with three different varieties of grass.

Moral of the story, use a quality seed. Great work Ginja!

As I've said before, lawns are a very high-maintenance weed. Thanks for the excellent video. This completely converted me to zero scaping.

Cool to see a couple of guys at the end that CTR. I always had that gut hunch. :0) Glad they all recovered from that winter.

It's crazy how fast that lawn grew in especially being that it's summer. Exceptional video as always

Awesome commentary on these grasses. I have been waiting to see the outcome of them. I'd say your test was quite thorough.

Nice! I've given up on my lawn this year and letting it goto dormant. In May I used a local repretuable professional landscaper in the spring (gold package) to fertilize, spray for weeds, dethatch, reseed, took some time off work so that I can be home (I work in a remote location and live by myself), even spent hundreds on the Scotts seeds that's supposed to grow anywhere, watered it daily and still have empty patches everywhere. Spots won't grow, got the cheetah patterns everywhere so i'll just leave it be.

Awesome results! It looks like the whole lawn blends in nicely which in and of itself is a huge plus! I'd love to mix all of them together to create some super turf 😂

Looks amazing! I waited too long to drop my seed last fall and didn't get it down before it snowed. Put it down in May, but it's still pretty patchy and didn't germinate in several spots. Watching this, I know what to do in the fall this time.

I used that Ryan knorr PRG when I did my first Reno. Still looks good to this day but added better cultivars to it 👏🏻

Did the backyard two years ago with the berenburg rpr and it was like half the price of what it is now but still some of the best grass seed i have used

Awesome to see the results, all varieties look very nice. Very interested to see if the Rye actually spreads. So far in my own RPR lawn I really haven't seen it spread that well and the stolons are not really developing at all, so very interested to see if the creeping kind will actually spread. Awesome to follow along.

Thoughts on the black beauty ultra from Jonathan green? I am in Northern Utah and I am looking at laying this down in my backyard for some overseeding this fall.

Can you please do an update on the RK and RPR comparison before it snows again? I’d like to see if those spots filled in.

Royce says what happen to my lawn? How can I scratch my back now?😊

Did you apply the Propeat 10-0-10 at the time of seeding, as a "starter fertilizer", or as a subsequent treatment? My soil test suggests a 13-5-8 mix would be appropriate. I'm just not sure if that's what I should use as a starter when I seed in September, or if I should use a traditional starter like Scott's Turfbuilder and then use the 13-5-8 in the regular fertilizing cycle. As always, thanks a bunch for your insights. Best lawncare channel out there, hands down.

Here's a video idea. ~ The lawns in my suburban neighborhood are Kentucky Blue grass. Over the years, all the lawns have risen up, now standing 1 to 2 inches above the adjacent concrete sidewalks. What is happening here? Are the roots from random trees forcing up the lawn soil? Are lawn roots expanding up uniformly? Are concrete slabs sinking? Are cumulative factors doing it? Help me solve this mystery.
