Bill Maher is Educated on the Bible by Chris Distefano

Here we look at Christ Distefano's comments on the book "Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. We also engage some of the false comments made by Bill Maher about the contents of the New Testament

Bill is just ignorant here. The Jesus is a myth argument is very weak.

Strobel was a legal editor and a journalist, not a lawyer.

Maher's howler about Paul: "There are no details about Jesus's life [in Paul's letters]."

And why would there be? Paul was writing for an audience who knew Jesus and wasn't writing a biography, so the fact that he wasn't mentioning anything about Jesus's life (where he was born, when he died etc) is exactly what you'd expect. The fact that Paul writes about his relationship with Jesus's brother (his actual sibling) pretty much puts to rest any notion he was referring to a mythical being.

Philosophically I agree with Maher about atheism (I'm not a believer), but his profound ignorance of history is a serious problem.

Don't get me wrong, I love that this guy is saying what he said; but there were so many corrections to be made when Bill brought up the dead sea scrolls and the council of Nicaea that really could have had an impact.

Somebody needs to tell Bill Maher how wrong he was Matthew, Mark, Luke and John did not come after Jesus they may have written some things after Jesus but they were with Jesus they were his disciples

This was about the least convincing presentation ive ever heard.

Bill O'Reilly's book was much better.

Both are clueless. Paul wrote from 52AD onwards and the Gospels dated from 65AD and almost all biblical scholars, most of whom are atheist, believe that they were based on authentic traditions. Compare that to most other ancient writings where events were written down centuries after the fact.

"the case for christ" actually outlines that lee strobel was a journalist, and he immediately destroys his journalistic credibility during the book.
also, during his short-lived journalism career, he actually reported sensitive investigation information, incorrectly, and ended up pointing the finger at an innocent man while covering 'the court's beat'. for some reason, he forgot to mention his, 'search' began shortly after he'd been let go from the last newspaper who would print him. 😮
