Set up a 1.20+ Paper Minecraft server | High Performance | 1.20+

A simple video that explains downloading and setting up your own Paper server for 1.20 and above. I show 1.20 in this video, but it applies to every recent version and even future ones! By the end, you will have a working multiplayer server that you and your friends can play on for free! Yes, this video uses BuildTools, but it's the only official way to get these. Jars from any other sources may work but may hide some nasty code.

For Mac, the filename will be 'start.command, ' though I like mine to be 'run.command.'

Then the code will be:

exec java -Xms2G -Xmx4G -jar paper-1.20-5.jar nogui

replace "paper-1.20-5.jar" with whatever yours is, depends on what build you download in the future. "Xms" is minimum ram, while "Xmx" is maximum; 2G and 4G refer to the amount of ram you want the server to allocate, adjust accordingly.

Hey! Just an update, I dunno from what version but you dont need the start.bat file anymore, you litterally just click the paper.jar file and it should make all the same things. I believe this is true, but if I'm wrong, tell me.

Small correction 8G is 8192MB.
This is because 1024 is the closest whole binary number to 1000; it can be represented as 2^10 or

I have set up everything but when I try to join it says "Couldn't verify username because servers are unavailable" and "lost connection: Authentication servers are down. Please try again later, sorry!" can someone help fix this?

for some reason even with java and jarfix it dosnt generate any files like mine only the server jar file and the start.bat files
