Stepping back in time in a German cottage - 300 years old in Wyk auf Föhr

I wanted to show you a 300 year old house in Wyk on the North Sea Frisian island of Föhr, but discovered a lovely surprise on the way!

My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Relax and escape with me from the busy bustling world to my dreamy and serene slow living way of seeing my surroundings. Experience the magic of peering into the past and being in a fairytale, just for a little while.

I can't get enough of your videos. When I have a few moments I take a mini-vacation watching one of your videos of my home country. It gives me some ideas of places to visit when I go back. Your videos are all put together so lovingly and artistic. I love that you don't rush from sight to sight, but rather pay attention to the little things, and focus on the beauty of the places, and the atmosphere. Well done!

What I really like about your videos is that I discover things that as a local I overlook. We tend to travel around the world to look at far places but there is so much to discover near our homes.
I have been to Föhr quite a few times because it is just an hour away, but I never visited the storks.
Thank you for sharing

Midluner Scheuner - reminds me a bit of a hobbits house. If you like those stuff, there are several villages called museums dorf or freilichtpark. I like the Hessenpark. Entryfee is okay. Not to cheap but not expensive either.

In the 17th and 18th century the men went whaling on Dutch or Hamburg ships. They set off in March in flat-bottom coastal sailing ships that took them to the big ports and did not return till the winter or even the year after, or not at all. When they got their pay in Amsterdam or Hoorn they bought silver jewelry for their wives, daughters and girls and tons of wall tiles. Luckily there was some kind of standardization even back in those times so that after several successful whaling or "seal-clubbing" seasons their kitchens and parlours could be tiled all the way up in those beautiful Dutch patterns. The islanders had the worst reputation as "wreckers", no wonder when you think how precious a grounded ship was with all its timbers. There are tales that surving sailors were passed from farm to farm as the women lacked "male company", to put it mildly. Alcoholism took its toll. The big change came in the 19th century. Doctors advised their urban patients that spending the summer away from the noise and stench of crowded cities and dipping their overfed bodies into the cold sea would be a good thing. One of the first VIPs to do so was the Danish King Christian VIIIth. The year was 1844. The islands belonged to the Dukedom of Schleswig and that was Danish until 1864. He stayed in one of those "Pesel", which can be translated as "parlour" as it was the best furnished and most comfortable room on a farm. It is preserved and still keeps its name "Königspesel" to the present day because of that. Modern times were approaching. To get to the island Christian chartered the paddle tug "Eider" that normally towed ships into and out of the mouth of the Eider river. There was no other steamship at hand at that time. The good thing about Amrum and Föhr is that they have not been ruined by tourism and kept a lot of their quietness and original character.
