What ransomware was like 20 years ago

Ransomware has been a threat for quite some time now. However, there were a few differences in the early days compared to now.

Firstly, it wasn't as easy to get a cryptocurrency account as it is today. Signing up for a crypto account could take up to two weeks to get approved. As a result, paying the ransom wasn't as easy as it is now.

The ransom demands were also not as high as they are today. Typically, individuals were targeted (instead of corporations as it is now), and they were only hit for a few hundred dollars. People were only losing things like Word documents, Excel files, and pictures on their personal computers. Therefore, the demand for money was not high. The ransom demand in the early days ranged from a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars.
